Either way, weird to post a listing for this type of job. You figure it's for the former players that Sportsnet recruites, not for any George Costanza to apply for.
|
I think Millions does enjoy it, but he wasn't exactly given a fair shake as PBP either. Hell, television's pretty much been a revolving door since Ed Whalen retired. Hopefully radio doesn't follow suit.
also, I hope that the radio gigs are open because Loubo is back doing PBP on television.

I'd like to apply for the job, I think I can do an excellent job of doing it in a voice of an East German movie actor with the puck and the stick and the little men skating around da ice really fast ya.

What I'd really like to see is for them to drive a boatload of money up to Bob Staffer's house and for him to take the job. You couldn't find a bigger Edmonton bumpkin on the radio waves and to have him have to force out every word of PBP for a team he loathes would be fantastic.
Even better would be listening to the team/city win him over during the course of his first season and to finally hear the epiphanies when:
1. He realizes the Oiler's are a joke
2. Edmonton is a dump he wasted over half his life in
...those things would bring me MUCH joy...your move Sportsnet.

Or they want a quick and seamless format to be able to work with. Many acting/voice over agencies use video hosting sites such as youtube as they don't have to waste space and resources of their own.

The listing says NHL experience as a player or coach OR 5 years of broadcasting experience are required, so not for any George Costanza. Still pretty odd to list it though.

Gotta think Brad Curle is being considered for radio. I know when he left Lethbridge years ago, getting closer to and working for the Flames was a primary reason. I wonder how much say the Flames have I the hiring of the new guys.

I'd like to see Brad Curle get the job with Loubo being the color guy.

Yeah, you've got to figure Brad Curle is in the running. He's pretty solid on the Hitmen broadcasts.

One name to keep an eye on is Dan Russell. He's doing pbp for whl on shaw and desperately wanted the Canucks pbp job after Jim robson retired. has been a mainstay in Vancouver radio for 3 decades and just recently ended his sportstalk radio show. Could see him as a strong candidate.

Loubo needs to be in one of the four positions. He is awesome and has encyclopedic hockey knowledge.
It will be a big loss for Calgary hockey fans if he is not working with the Flames next season in some capacity.

Loubo for pbp and Warrener for colour, in my mind, would be the best combo.
Warrener would give the ex-player POV and lots of inside stories and analogies from the 04 team.
And Loubo is just flat out awesome.

Ugh. Not a huge Warrener fan.
I think Loubo on PBP and Kerr on colour would be the ideal combo.

Kerr on color? He doesn't have much understanding at all of the technical side of the game.

Can't see Warrener being interested given the amount of travel and all the evening work.

I think that is the policy if they want to take advantage of the TFW program. Ah, that would be the most awesome experiment ever. Maybe not...

Kerr is very knowledgeable with regards to hockey. He was a bad pbp guy mostly because his mind worked faster then his mouth and he kept bumbling things up. Put him in a situation where he can just talk hockey during the game, not having to worry about play calling, and he'd add a lot to the game
