Is Chelios involved with Red Wings management....I'd love to see these two playing in the same foursome at the GM's meetings. Hextal would put a 1 iron in his bag just to drive across the fairway and chop down Chelios.

I really like this quote from Hextall:
Quote:
"I'm extremely excited about this new opportunity to manage the Philadelphia Flyers," Hextall said. "I look forward to working closely with Paul in our new hockey structure and working towards our ultimate goal of winning the Stanley Cup."
|
I found too often in the threads about Burke, and now about Treliving, that meddling or being a puppet were brought up. I find that successful organizations have executives that talk with each other and makes decisions as a team. Sure, someone has to have the final say, but you aren't going to be very good if you don't bounce ideas off of each other.
Ron has clearly stated that he is a step up from his former position, but he is also going to work with his boss. Although the idea isn't revolutionary, it seems to be foreign to many. Anyone who ignores their boss, isn't going to be around very long.
I think this is a good move by the Flyers, and I like the direction they are going.

There's no mistaking who he was talking about either. He said "ask the fans how they've enjoyed the last 8 years". How much does every other GM dislike the oilers for this to be casually mentioned at a GM hiring?

Not sure. Heard it on XM radio on my way to my Summerland store

I have no comment on Hextall, but it's interesting that other sports are moving away from the old boys club, while the NHL does the opposite

Yet another NHL team adopting the very successful Edmonton Oilers front office model.

He does have a good point.

did hextall annouce the implementation of a new analytics system effective immediately or perhaps sometime soon, perhaps once they have conducted an analysis of the various systems?

It's pretty obvious that amongst the rest of the league they are looked at as a running joke. We heard Trotz take a shot at them earlier in the year as well as everyone around the league knows what's going on there.

Every GM uses one, and I doubt is any different there

Edmonton's incompetence doesn't mean this is always a bad thing. Hextall has earned a shot at being a GM. He's been a scout and he's been the assistant GM of a Stanley Cup winning team (LA Kings assistant GM from 2006-2013, so he knows something about winning). This is a good move for Philly.

does he???
Hextall just said that he spent 15 years working towards becoming an NHL GM. He's paid his dues and worked in management with the kings during their rebuild years, and then recently with the flyers.
At least folks are asked to learn the job before taking the role. MacT went from being a lousy NHL coach, went and got his MBA, and was awarded the position of GM.

I disagree. Hextall learned from several different GMs and has been an AGM for a number of years.
Lowe fell ass-backwards into his job, MacT isnt qualified to be the General Manager of a MacDonald's and Eakins had never been an NHL head coach and the closest he ever got to one was standing beside Paul Maurice and Ron Wilson.

I was not surprised about Ron Hextall being promoted to GM position. What I was surprised about was Holmgren becoming the President. Oh well I guess Ed Snider really likes Paul Holmgren. Flyers fan should hope Holmgren's ego is not as big as Kevin Lowe's ego.

Guys read the post. Pronman said: "I have no comment on Hextall". We all know he's paid his dues. It's more a comment on how the NHL still is an old boys club.

EMBA. Executive.
To give you an idea of how useless that is. I was offered entrance into a 2 year EMBA program with no high school diploma. All they care about is someone writing you a recommendation letter, and someone forking over the 40k/yr. I bet MacT thinks he is pretty 1337 for scoring a degree anyone with 80k to burn can land.

I like Paul Holmgren as a GM. He's very aggressive...maybe a little too aggressive. Then again, Ron Hextall doesn't really strike me as the conservative type either.
