Do people obsessed with trading Glencross for some reason not realize he has an NMC? There is absolutely no chance whatsoever that he waives to go to the Islanders.

4th overall + both 2nds (If necessary) ->Ekblad

Hudler + Baertschi +Butler/Russell(If necessary) ->Isles 5th

Trade Isles 5th for 8th overall + 2nd

Draft Ritchie

Enter draft with Baertschi, Hudler, Butler/Russell, two second rounders and fifth overall.

Leave draft with Ekblad, Ritchie and a second.

Future Top 6:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ritchie
Granlund-Backlund-Poirier

Brodie-Ekblad

GlenX is not being traded, he has a no trade he won't waive, he is coming off a season full of injuries so value is low, and he has size and grit which is what the Flames are lacking.

anyone who thinks the Flames would keep Hudler over GlenX is going to be dissapointed

back on topic I would do Hudler+Sven

So essentially you would be unwilling to give up anyone of any real value, the fact is if you wanted to get the pick you would have to give up something more than a 50-60 point player and a couple of players who are second round draft picks. If the Islanders were going to deal their first round draft pick they would be asking for a player that is closer to Giordano's caliber than that of Hudler.

I could see Winnipeg working out something involving Kane

But if we could do something built around Backlund or Hudler (adding) I would be all for it

^ However, speaking of obsessive Flames fans, I find it hilarious that he actually thinks the Islanders would consider as part of a trade an unrestricted free agent in Butler.

Getting two of Bennett/Draisaitl/Dal Colle would be so huge. Even though Granlund/Baertschi and all the other depth guys (Reinhart etc) are good players, those 3 all have 1st line upside. Granlund is more of a second liner if he hits and Baertschi is trending that way more so than being a 1st liner (he needs to really step it up)

Those three all have the potential to be all-star calibre players. Having a top 5 of Monahan, Poirier, Gaudreau, Bennett, Dal Colle is basically filling all the potential top 6 spots and still having all the bottom 6 depth that we have.

It would basically accelerate our rebuild a large amount and we could start focusing on D hard after that and start to put the finishing touches on the rebuild after just 1 year.

5th overall picks aren't cheap man. Cammy was worth a third rounder at the deadline.

That said the value of that trade is probably off. Don't worry though, I'm not actually a gm.

Hudler had 54 pts in 75 games... so people are proposing pretty much exactly what you're suggesting

Anything except Johnny, Gio, Monahan, Sven, Brodie, Ramo and the 4th pick is fair game to me.

The worst thing about buying stuff is paying for it eh?

Especially overpaying. If a deal isn't there, a deal isn't there. Teams like Edmonton or the Jets could pay more for the 5th. The Flames have a good thing started. No sense in stripping it down to get a coin flip.

I think I would be more enthused to give up assets for #5 if there was a top pairing D projected to go around there...

That way Flames get a potential top line forward and a potential top pairing D in this draft, but since there isn't not sure if I am willing to pay the price given the forward prospect depth of the organization at the time.

I think the flames should take a run at getting 5th from the Isles. If Burke can figure out a way to do it without giving up any of our youth, it could really push forward the rebuild. Monahan, Poirier, Klimchuk, Bennett, and Dal Colle/Ritchie/Virtanen in two years... it might work out nicely. We can even trade one of these guys for a blue-chip D prospect.

I agree. If that's the best course of action, Burke better be ready to wheel and deal. If the Flames take Bennett/Reinhart at 4, they could deal down past the Islanders to say 8-12 and take Fleury or McKeown or package the 2nds for someone like DeAngelo or Honka.

I'd even go as far to trade Ramo + Hudler + Cammalleri's rights for 5.

I know that's an overpayment, but man would it be awesome to have two more potential young star forwards on this team.
