I believe in the Jays.
|
So by dream scenario I assume it has to be at least vaguely realistic...
Cammilleri for a top prospect. A low first is more realistic but if it's a dream scenario then I'll take the guy further along in the development stream.
Stajan & Stempniak for 2nd rounders
Butler, Smith, & O'Brien for late round picks
Extend Russell
If the window for this hasn't already passed take on some shorter-term bad money deals that have sufficient futures attached (we need to make the floor anyways).
Fill the vacancies with deserving guys from the farm and eventually the college signs.

My dream is we trade Cammalleri to a team sitting in 7th or 8th (preferably to the east). That teams implodes and finishes outside looking in at the playoffs finishing 19th overall in the league. Miraculously, with 1.1% chance that pick wins the draft lotto. The Flames then walk into the Draft holding the 1st overall as well as their own at 3rd (I think it is next to impossible to out suck Buffalo). The Flames walk away with Reinhart at 1 and Ekblad at 3.
Dream big or go home I say.

Re-sign Russell and Stempniak. Rest of the UFAs either traded for picks/prospects or if they're untradeable, let them walk when their contract is up.

I don't understand why people are so eager to trade Galiardi. He's been one of the positives for me this season.

Unfortunately I don't believe Cammy is worth a 1st and a prospect. I think he'll get one or the other, but not both. I'd say he's the most likely to move, and whatever else happens is up in the air. I'd LOVE to see Butler gone, and to be honest I'd be happy if Stajan stayed. Same with Stempniak. I can't see Backlund going anywhere but if he does, I wouldn't be too upset.

Cammalleri for a 1st (or package with Backs to get a prospect back)
Stajan resigned
Stempniak for a 2nd
Russell resigned
Butler for a 6th/7th

I certainly hope Russell doesn't resign. That would be awful for the Flames.

Most contenders look to load up their blueline for a playoff drive; move anyone other than Gio. I doubt Butler or SOB would deliver more than a 6th or 7th round pick.
Russell is probably the guy to move. Buy low, sell high with Russell. The Blues gave up a 2nd and a 5th for Leopold last season. Russell might deliver something similar.

Resign Russell.
Discuss with Stempniak, Stajan, and Cammalleri who of them may be willing to re-sign in the offseason if they're traded. Ideally we could move both Cammy and Stemp and resign them both.
Move Stempniak for a 2nd. Call up Granlund?
Move Stajan for a 2nd. Call up Knight?
Move Cammalleri for a 1st or a 1B prospect, preferably a D. Call up Hanowski?
Flip MacDonald for a late round pick.
See if there's any interest in Smid. Anything better than a 3rd and move him, otherwise keep him. Call up Wotherspoon or Ramage?
Try to get some AHL depth in addition to the picks for these guys because holes will open up on the farm trying to fill the gaps in the NHL roster. Not necessarily on a 1-to-1 ratio. AHL-only contracts a plus as they won't take up contract space, which we'll need to sign Agostino, Arnold and Gaudreau (hopefully).
Keep everybody else.

If you want a clue as to why some people are becoming down on Galiardi, think of how disappointing Backlund has been this year offensively. They both have good corsi stats and possession rates except Galiardi's play has been twice as bad, with generally significantly more playing time and, unlike Backlund, Galiardi hasn't been buried on the 4th line at all, yet offensively he's been very, very poor this year.
While Galiardi looked pretty good for maybe the 1st 3 or 4 games, he's been pretty awful since then in terms of doing anything half-good for the most part, despite his good possession rate numbers.

I agree with him. Russell has been one of the few pleasant surprises and I would be dissapointed if he resigns. I think the Flames should re-sign him and to a healthy raise as well.

Why list a post deadline lineup?
By collecting picks, it is the lineup 3-4 years from now that we are concerned about.

Part of my scenario is listing something I would be interested in watching post deadline for the rest of the year..

Francis did you really just ask me that dumb question. Of course we are not trading Johnny Gaudreau to the Blackhawks.
Further we tried to do what is best for the Calgary Flames today and that I've released Mr. Jay Feaster from his duties as General Manager going forward. He proposed some trades today that would have sent this franchise back another 10 years, but I killed everyone of those deals including Johnny Gaudreau to the Blackhawks.
However, we were able to come to terms with the Pittsburgh Penguins by trading Bob Hartley to the Penguins in exchange for Sidney Crosby.
Oh you meant for us to take this seriously.....right.

Why would that be awful? He's been one of our best defencemen.

Pretty much the same as FBI, although I feel like Stempniak is starting to look frustrated on and off the ice, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him land somewhere else.
I feel good knowing our young guys are being mentored by Hudler and hope he finishes his contract as a Flame.
