So to summarize...

You have an opinion on it, and you believe that I have zero point of reference on it.

Okay then.

Flames will come onto the ice wearing their new jerseys, but instead of the controversial "Calgary" wordmark, it reads "Flams" instead.

CP explodes.

Flams win 9-2. Baertschi and Backlund each with hattricks.

No, the two being different is fact. Our assumptions on it's effectiveness are pointless because neither of us have been relegated to watching the game in the press box as opposed to playing.

So to summarize, you're better off commenting on the effectiveness of Backlund's golden locks on the ladies than you are on the effectiveness on an element of coaching that you don't know anything about

So others can comment that it is so beneficial but I can't refute their arguments because I have never been relegated to watching a game in the pressbox.

Again, okay then.

Here's another point on the subject for you to completely ignore for silly reasons, simply because you disagree with my opinion...

Backlund - the example you chose - has been in the pressbox for dozens of games in the past (he missed 66 games to injury over the last 3 seasons, for example). So sitting in the pressbox is hardly some new and enlightening exercise like so of the people on here attempt to portray it as.

Now you can go back to trying to attack me personally and speculating on whether or not I have ever been in the pressbox.

I don't think scratching a player for poor play is stupid. That and I don't see how he (Backlund) would have matched up against a pretty good Leafs lineup. His icetime would have been very limited last game.

But to answer your question, I think Backlund should sit out again as he seems to be a hard learner. The team played arguably their best game of the season without him in the lineup.

He's in tough again tonight against a pretty good Wings team, will be interesting to see how he does and where he's matched up. He needs to score tonight.

Flames played well last game, we need a better game from Joey and he will deliver I believe.

Have to go with a Flames win 5-3.

Some of you guys really need to let this scratch crap go....get over it. the horse is beaten, burned, buried, dug up, slapped around some more, thrown off a bridge, over a waterfall.....etc, etc.

Whoa, didn't realise saying you never sat in the press box was a personal attack. Calm down.

But no, you can't refute their arguments. Thanks for making my response shorter

Being in the press box is not about eating popcorn and texting with your buddies.

Sitting in the pressbox for an injury or sitting in the pressbox as a healthy scratch IS completely different. I know this because I have done just that at a high level (Division 1- MSU). When I was scratched there was a reason, and I was given a job to do while in the press box which directly related to that reason. This process was the same for me throughout my High school, Junior, College and short stint in Germany so I think it is safe to say this is a common practice. I am sure others on this board who have played at a high level can attest to the same experience.

In my experience when you are sent to the pressbox as a healthy scratch you get an "assignment" that must be completed. It can be as in depth as counting the odd man rushes in a game and listing which line was out for the odd man rush vs which defensive paring to as simple as recording line matchups. There is normally always a reason or an assignment when it pertains to a learning experience.

Now this might not be the same for 100% of the coaches and teams in the league but I can assure you that its a practice that is used by the large majority.

As an example which is related directly to Backlund: when Sutter was coach he did not require injured players to attend video meetings when injured. Gio even said as much this morning on the Fan and said that this year is different because Hartley makes all players attend regardless of status. So if he isn't required to attend video meetings how much "work" do you think he put in while watching the games from the pressbox while injured.

I don't mind a scratch here and there but like someone else alluded to, we aren't holding the vets accountable so what's the point?

Anyways the last two "iffy" scratches we had a huge loss and another loss.. We are doing much better WITH the young guys in the lineup, not without.

All true and I agree with what you are saying.

My point was that the pressbox thing was overstated. People were talking about how it is a completely different view from the ice, a real eye-opener, etc.

Never implied they sat on their thumbs or anything.

And again, the 'assignment' wouldn't be anything new either because they are already looking at those things in video.

Those were my points, never said it was useless.

Who would've thought that by game 13 we'd be deep enough at Center, Backlund would be relegated to the 4th line. Hard to argue though, Stajan has 3 points in 4 games and is our best defensive Center, Monahan is really like a 1B Center, lots of ice time easier line match ups and Colborne has gotten better each game. The way Hartley likes to mix his lines, would not surprise me to see Backlund with some other line mates tonight. Just need Mac to give us an important save when we need one. Tight game 4-3 OT win.

Not sure how Backlund is supposed to redeem himself playing with Bouma and Mcgrattan.. I guess score 2 goals in 4 minutes of icetime.
