Almonds. I buy Tamari almonds from Costco when I see them. Just a small handful is good enough to cure my hunger so I don't go to the vending machine and buy chips.
I used to throw away my money whenever the Nutman stopped by the office. He came every two weeks and I would probably spend $30 each time. That was when I was way out of shape and unware that I was diabetic... or at least I was developing diabetes at that time.
I drink four 24oz bottles of water each day at work.

Unless you prefer eating it that way for other reasons, but rice and hard boiled eggs seems unnecessarily bland.

I'm just trying a minimilist diet for now, I like that suggestion though

When I found out that when you absorb the souls of the vanquished you absorb their fat too, its a easy way to get Beetus.
I miss beef jerk, I had to drive to red deer today and didn't pack a snack, so I bought a bag of Turkey Jerkey, it was awesome.

My go-to snack has always been a Red Delicious Apple at 10am. Sit at the desk, carve it up, enjoy keeping the doctor away.....fantastic 5 minute break mid-morning. I even avoid scheduling meetings for 10am just so that I can enjoy my little ritual.
Cottage Cheese from time to time is a nice change as well, or a banana.

Have you considered smoking? Cigarettes have zero trans-fat and no calories.
Seriously - was in the same place as you 3 or 4 years ago. Tried lots of different things but also found fruit to be the most satisfying. Bulk without huge calories, variety of flavors, and typically a lot of fiber....which keeps a fella filled and regular.
I'd highly recommend picking two or three fruits/vegetables you enjoy and giving them each a week. Worst case scenario is that your body gets good nurishment....

Myfitnesspal is quite awesome for daily tracking and goal setting. Didn't really occur to me how much I was over snacking until I began to track my food intake. I was really stuffing my face with fistfuls of almonds and cashews, not aware of their calorie count.

I am a smoker, it will be the next habit I give up.
I make sure I have fruits in the morning as my mid morning snack. I alternate things like field berries, with apples, with citrus, with Pineapples etc.
In the afternoon I eat raw veggies, carrots, beans peas in the pod etc.
Its a pretty bland diet right now, but I figure it gets around the flavor craving tha that leads you to unhealthy foods.
I've also pretty much cut red meats out of my life and I'm eating a lot of chicken or fish with my dinners.
While I was hoping the weight loss would be faster over the first 6 weeks especially since I cut out things like pop and sugary snacks, but I'm averaging a pound and a half to 2 pounds a week.

Is this really needed, if one eats it in moderation?

My snacks rotate usually, but the staples are post work out granny smith apple in the morning, afternoon yogurt with almonds.
I look forward to both daily.
They also make a lot of great protein bars these days that taste great and are low sugar. Expensive as hell though.. use websites like bodybuilding.com to order them in bulk and save $$$. Great alternative to that afternoon sugar craving we all get with added protein and fibre. Watch the calorie count though as a lot are meant for bulking/building muscle, many brands offer a calorie sensitive choice as well.

Not really, it was more of a choice where white meats like Chicken and seafoods are just a bit leaner
I might have the occasional steak once my weight is where I want it to be. But I've really reduced the amount of meat that I eat (and not because of the whole animal rights Veggie argument)

I think serving size helps as well. Bison is very lean and tasty.

Well mate, it sounds like you're getting really good results already. Steady and healthy, brilliant.
I lost about 80 pounds over the course of a few years by making the same kinds of changes you have. The most important thing is that you end up with a new, enjoyable, and sustainable way of living.....I haven't gained back the weight and neither will you.
Key thing to remember.....people typically gain weight slowly (1 or 2 pounds per month) over a long period of time. It's only natural that it comes off the same way!

Thanks for the advice and encouragement. There are some days when I do get really frustrated and I have the whole "That's it, that's all I've lost over the last couple of weeks" rage moments.
It hasn't been super tough as I like rice and I do like Chicken and I do like fish. But sitting in front of the tube and seeing a Wendy's commercial is like Pavlov ringing the bell. And I used to enjoy going over to DQ for a blizzard once and a while, or stop at Mac's for a Slushy on the way home from work.
So I'm a long way from being mentally stabilized, but its getting there.
