Living in a new city for 6 months then moving to a new city for 2 months on a cheap deal doesn't seem worth it for a guy that doesn't need money.

Why not just sign for a contender from the start and avoid the needless move and many, many losses?

Playing time would be the most motivation, I would imagine. Teams like Boston / Chicago / Pittsburgh / LA are all full-up with their own talent and would push Hejduk out of their top-six.

He has a better chance to play top-six minutes on teams short on offense.

Hey, if he's happy to take a reduced role for a contender, then sure. Don't think he's going to settle for that though.

Maybe he signs with a middle-of-the-pack team.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but only because I feel bad that Hejduk can't have a season without Sacco as his coach to retire in Colorado. Especially because his buddies are running the show now. He used to be really good defensively but I guess that has gone, still has good hands and a good shot

From the interview it sounds like he doesn't want to move too far from Colorado, wants his kids to be able to play hockey, and wants to play in the top 6. Sounds like Calgary to me...

We should not be signing anyone that age.

Seems like a pretty crappy way to spend a year.

Wants top minutes/top money
wont get it on a contender

As most have mentioned it makes perfect sense to come play top minutes somewhere and be traded at the deadline to play a lesser role but have a chance at a cup.
Who knows if he needs the money or just loved the game. One thing is for sure and that is he doesnt want to retire.

Im not saying the flames need to do it but it makes 100% perfect sense for him to go to a below average team for top dollar and head out at the deadline. Im also not sure what his family situation is but they must be fine with it or else he would be retiring!

#### no! We are rebuilding why waste a roster spot on over the hill way past his prime Euro.

Problem is, if you add Hejduk to the roster you probably lose Horak as we won't have room for him. Then we have the problem of having a team full of mentors but no rookies to learn from them.

Basically I think it would be a waste of a season to have a roster like that.

I can see the benifit to Hejduk to want to sign with a weak team like the Flames. He would get the big minutes to showcase what he can do and then set himself up to be traded to a contender at the deadline.

Pretty much the exact same thing Jagr did last year with the Stars and is set up to do again this year with the Devils.

The sticking point is that Hejduk wants big $$ to go with it and we don't want to pay him that. The Flames also do not have room for him. So I really do not see the Flames as a fit.

I can see one of the other fringe/bubble teams going for him like the Preds, Panthers, BJs, Canes...

Well if Flames offer big money I can see why he would want to come but not sure why Flames would waste the money.

If he wants top 6 minutes probably better teams he could still get that on. At his age doubt teams put much stock into what he would do on a crappy Flames team as they already know what they are going to get.

Doesn't seem worth it to uproot your family or leave them for a year to try and hope you get dealt to a contender and risk wasting a year on a garbage team if nothing works out at the deadline.

I'd much rather him retire, not too many players anymore only play for 1 franchise.

I wouldn't be against it, but not really needed either.

I am all for paying for a mercenary and then flipping them at the deadline if they do well. The team has to be upfront about that to the player though.
