Interesting, I had Monahan at 6 on my own list... i.e. he's the worst possible player who could've been the BPA at 6. If anyone outside my top 5 had been picked within the top 5 it would've pushed down a player who I would've prefered to Monahan. I wonder if the Flames had him in their top five?

Get over it, you're annoyingly harping on the same crap in multiple threads. You're angry, you're bitter, you're annoying. We get it.

Players like Butler and Stajan give us a better shot at McDavid...at this stage in the rebuild it's no time to finish 9th in the west. Hopefully we can get a top 3 pick in 2014 to add to higher end players like Baertschi & Monahan

hmmm. I'm sorry, did I say something incorrect?

The last sentence was pretty much verbatim of what Feaster said in his PC? That the scouts had 3 picks as part of the top 13 on their board?

please, correct me if i've misquoted something?

Feaster's a lawyer. Tod Button explained that they eliminated players between 6 and 22 who they knew they weren't going to get. So of the 13 players left they got their men.

thanks for the explanation; i thought it was always understood that between 3-5 of the players wouldn't be on the Flames list. Makes zero sense to have Jones, Drouin and Jones on the boards, because it was a guarantee that they would be gone by six.

the Flames list being referenced definitely didn't include those three (and probably Barkov), so 4 really.

I'm not about to advocate a 30th place finish before the season even starts.

If by the midway point it's become a reality, then so be it. Until then, I want them to try and be as competitive as possible, which means moving out the slow, aging parts, and replacing them with young, fresh talent.

Depends on how much stock you put into Flames scouting, which right now I have about zero faith in

Agreed I have no playoff expectations for this team next year but with a young team and a few players that have had success in the past this could be a better group than anyone suspects

I guess the big remaining question coming out of this draft is how big an offer he's going to make to Lecavalier. I feel Feaster really wants him and that he's going to outbid all other teams to get him. The question will be if Vinny wants to come to Calgary.

And really, how much does it even cost them to get that done in that fashion. Peanuts in the grand scheme of things.

I would guess the flames could afford 30 or 100 sewn jerseys. Not a big deal, but I agree a nice touch

During the eight year playoff drought, I thought the flames would make the playoffs every year. I was hoping for it time after time.

Saying that, and while I honestly respect your thoughts, and feel maybe a true fan would think the same way you do....

I can honestly say I am hoping for a season that puts us around 10th in the conference come trade deadline day, and then we tank it. Gives us a semi-competitive season to watch, and we get our future.

Might be a terrible thing to say, but I am sick of the terrible placement of nearly making the playoff each year.

I am sure that Feaster will out bid the teams that i have seen on the list. I don't think it will matter. I really can't see Vinny playing out his career as a "money" player. He just collect how much, $32 million?

and why not say to him, I'll give you another 7 million right now, then when the trade deadline comes, and you can see the contenders, ill trade you to them for a 1st.

Vinny wins.
Flames win.
Contenders win.

I was impressed with the interview. Other then him overselling the prospects again (all in our top 13).

In particular I like that he isn't going into free agency desperate, that they are committed to a rebuild, that they aren't trading for players with a year or two left under contract, and that the RFA qualification process is getting underway.

Can't believe he didn't trade Stajan, Backlund, and Brodie for Crosby, Malkin and Letang.

Fire Feaster!

Actually a good overall draft and approach to the coming season in the real world.

I am pretty excited to see how the new guys fair, especially as now we have added a bit of size down the middle. I am sure Monahan and Sven want to prove themselves NHL worthy.
