As a fan, nothing shows a players dedication like blocking a 90-100 mph shot for his team. It's exciting to watch, IMO.

I agree. Although I would be fine if they outlawed the sliding blocked shot.

But it takes no skill. IMO anytime you have a no skill play that nullifies a skill one, the league has to look at it

Disagree, takes skill and timing. You drop too fast, the player goes around you, and you're out of the play.....drop too slow and the puck goes under you, and you likely screened the shot (or worse tipped it).

Definetly takes skill to do it right! No to mention if you do it wrong, you'll likely get injured too.

I had to re read it about 5 times until I was able to comprehend what they meant.. I thought the other way around was a good rule, that way we have less hand injuries :P

I see where they are going with it.. but I still don't like it. The players should have a choice to remove their helmets and expose themselves.

I believe fighting has a place in the game, end of an era.

With what we know about concussions these days I've got no problem with fighting being out of the game. I don't consider a hockey game a good game based upon the number of fights that happened in it.

It was easier to make an argument that fighting was necessary to eliminate the cheap stuff when we thought that no one got seriously hurt during fights. But now we know that isn't true.

Doubt it... I figure all this does is eventually make the two minutes after a fight 4-on-4 play (for the coinsidential minors when both guys remove their helmets).

Well I suppose if both players take their helmets off, they offset. Not sure how effective this rule will be

This has never happened, as far as I know, from a punch in a hockey fight. Broken facial bones, check. Possibly a fracture from the head hitting the ice on a take down, yup. Skull fracture from a punch, never heard of it.

Way more serious injuries come from shots than fighting has ever produced. Time to outlaw composite sticks. :P

If this is the reasoning, then why allow fighting at all? It's unnecessary blows to the head, of course there will be concussions

I have a suggestion. It's either a diving penalty or a tripping penalty, not both. If it's diving, hit them with a $5000 fine.

I was wondering this, too. It's my #1 issue in the NHL today, dives and embellishments are out of control and it's making the product on the ice suffer.

It seems like every time a player thinks there's an infraction they either fall down or grab their face and then immediately look at the refs. Last night was a good example......Horton took a stick near the eye and kep playing, which is rare to see and also honourable. A few minutes later Keith got hit, went down, grabbed his face then looked at the ref. That's the kind of garbage I want to see out of the game. Enough is enough.

Where do you draw the line though? Foam pucks and rubber padded sticks? These guys both know and accept the risks that com with dropping the mitts. It's not the players that want this.

If both guys agree and take their helmets off they both get an extra 2 minutes, so it's pointless really.
