It seems weird to make this list now with the Stanley Cup still up for contention. Never mind that the rosters as they are for all teams today may change greatly by the time the season starts. But whatever.

I don't think it's that far fetched.
There's only so much you can do with a roster in an off-season.
This was a bottom 5 team looking at an offseason where they'd have to get a top defender and a top 6 winger just to get back to 5th worst.
Predicting Calgary will suck next year is shooting fish in a barrel with dynamite.
Edit: as for the other picks, no one will remember this anyway, odds will change, yadda yadda. It's just one more thing to get the Canadians to drop their money on while they're down in Vegas before hockey season ends.

I agree about Calgary's chances, just the timing seems weird. Draft, FA, not to mention the potential for compliance buyouts...just odd to me. No biggie.

..I think they'll do better than last season. Not a playoff team, but better nonetheless.

I'd be shocked if that was the case, but anything can happen.

These odds absolutely mean nothing to me. Still a lot of time before the start of next season.

And odds before the draft and free agency mean what exactly?

As long as people want to make bets, the sports books will take them. It's not like these odds remain static for the next year. They need to set opening odds to get the action started, then, they adjust the odds based on the betting.
Remember, the odds are adjusted based on the activity of the betting, not directly on anything the teams do. The moves that the teams make over the summer and during the season will cause people to increase betting on certain teams, and decrease betting on others. The sports books then adjust the payouts to maintain balance. It's all about ensuring the casino makes money regardless of who wins.

Quite a bit if you put money on them.

I'm all for them finishing last. I somehow doubt they will though.

The reliance on Iginla and Tanguay was a negative for the team the past few years, IMO. Particularly because both are/were well passed their prime. The big hole was left by Jaybo, hopefully the Flames can find an adequate replacement.
Opportunity and competition are wonderful things. I think we see the youth move forward a bit next year. Nothing earth shattering and definitely not a playoff team, but I think they start to make strides.
The Flames are not deep on high end talent, but they do have some key pieces in key roles moving forward.

Anything is possible but unless some of the players they draft this month come in right away and produce and a franchise goaltender pokes his head out of the cluster of unproven goaltenders we are probably looking at the worst overall roster in the NHL with a head coach that isn't really a good match for a low talent, rebuilding team. 2013/2014 may be the season the Flames finally crack top 5 in the draft.

Kipper didn't pay well last year. He certainly stole a few games, but goaltending was not strong last year, with him or without him.I see no change for next year in that department.
When traded last year, Iginla was fourth on team scoring..fourth...on a really bad team. I'm not concerned about that loss either...seriously.
I think that with some more opportunity, Backlund, Sven and Horak will improve their point totals...which is why I think the team is slightly better than last year, but still not a playoff team.
I agree on the coach. My guess is that he is turfed in 2014-2015..mid season.

I do believe that had this been a full 82 game season, the Flames would have finished last.

I feel like we're hitting rock bottom one season too early. No McDavid for us.

Don't worry, this team will blow goats for several years. The only thing that will keep the Flames from McDavid is the draft lottery.

If we finish last in 2015 we all know we're not winning the lottery anyway.
I couldn't bare the disappointment.

True. A center core of S.Reinhart, Monahan/Bakrov and Backlund wouldn't make it sting so badly though.
