That's kind of what happened when Krutov came to the NHL. Under a lax training regime compared to the USSR, his weight ballooned and he never had much of an NHL career. He checked into the first Canuck"s training camp 30 pounds overweight.
Pat Quinn once said in an interview, when asked about the situation, that Krutov is going to miss the team bus one of these days because he has to get yet another hot dog.
What a waste of potential. You can imagine if he really got himself into great shape that he could be a dominant player but we will only ever see 2/3's of his potential.
This is why I don't buy into assuming young prospects that don't take care of their body will just change their spots when they turn pro.
I was shocked that he ever became an NHLer (a pretty good one at that) from watching him back in PG as a junior.
He was usually lights out for the 1st 5 minutes of a game, but would be puking on the bench for 55 minutes. He used to get boo'd all the time. I think it's a testament to Chicago's player development that they were able to get his conditioning half-decent.
Still, a shame that he has always had those issues because he would likely be amazing otherwise.

I can believe it if he checked into training camp at that weight, but we're talking about him having that weight at the end of the NHL season (and a shortened season to boot), where he played 20 min per game. That just seems beyond crazy to me. Does that mean, without the NHL, he'd be 500lbs?
Gary Lawless is Winnipegs version of Eric Francis except for the fact he is a fat sweaty mess. I can't believe even more he used a hockeybuzz blogger as his source. Jesus.

The age-old question answered! That was hilarious!
Hahahaha! I've always wanted to see a Sumo wrestler in goalie gear.
Wasn't Andrei Medvedev proof enough? The guy was a phenom in a sumo body. I wonder once in a while how good he would've been if he had dedicated himself.

Forget hockey, this kid needs to look after himself better. When he finishes hockey and his metabolism goes down, if he does not change his eating ways, he will have huge health problems. Would not be surprised if he does not make it to 50 if no changes occur.
Good lord, have you checked out his stats? a) this report is likely completely inaccurate & b) anyone playing north of 26 minutes a night in the NHL at that level with those stats is going to have a pretty healthy heart, regardless of weight. Get a grip.
Wouldn't want to get hipchecked by him, though...........
I'm not sure about that. I have a friend who weighs 280, and Byfuglien looks at least 20-30 pounds heavier than him in that photo in the 6th post of this thread. I'm more inclined to believe that he was heavier than 265 at the start of the season than that he's significantly under 300 now.

Why would the Jets want to trade him? I didn't see many of their games, but by the numbers he looked to have had an okay year?
I hear that they and the Bombers are going to reconstruct his contract for a two way deal. Plays defence in the NHL and left tackle in the CFL.

Yeah he looks huge in that picture. Seabrook looks scrawny right next to him and he is listed at 227 lbs.
