Sorry good step towards Reinhart followed by McDavid the next year.

Our goaltending was league worst this season and we only got 25th. I don't think we can fall much further on goaltending alone.

We still had Kipper have a few Kipper type games that likely were the difference between 25th and bottom 3. That should be gone now if he retires.

As I mentioned in the other thread Portland is much more talented and with the rest should win this series easily.

As much as I like Wotherspoon, Brossoit has a larger chance to make a significant impact on the series. I also wouldn't mind knocking Seth Jones down a peg or two before he makes his "acsension" to the Avalanche as their savior.

I'm cheering for Edmonton in this one.

They took 2 weeks off and then got back at daily practices. ( Road to the Memorial Cup, great show)

re: Ferland

Ferland is the real deal. Can't wait to see him at the next level. Been watching him for years with Brandon and now toon, he always stands out.

I hope you are right, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I too couldn't wait to see him at the next level, yet he apparently went to Abbotsford nowhere near ready to compete, and couldn't even earn himself ECHL starts.

We could really use a player of his ilk in the fold, hopefully he's ready this fall.

Kipper really stepped up huge this year with his 8-14-2 record. He really stole us a lot of games. I think even a shooter tutor could've won us 8 games.

We won the Anaheim game because of him and an earlier game (St. Louis?) because of him as well.

I didn't say he played well all season I said he had a couple of "Kipper" games that we likely don't get from his replacements next season.

This is Portland's third straight year having been to the Finals and they lost the previous two times. Brossoit has consistently been one of the best goalies in the WHL for the last two years and he won MVP last year. So I'm going to have to root for the Winterhawks to win.

I apologize for the dumb question, but I really don't follow the WHL.

Is Brossoit really a legit goaltending prospect? Is he a guy that can really be a starter in the NHL?

Or is this going to end up like Brent Krahn?

I would compare him a bit to Irving, both played great behind great WHL teams. I like Brossoit chances of being a NHLer a bit more because he sounds like he has a better head on his shoulders. Anyone who thinks Brossoit is ready for the NHL next season is crazy IMO. My money is still on Gillies to be the next great Flames goalie.

Very valid question - and difficult to answer.

First of all, is he a legit prospect? Absolutely.

Will he turn out to be another Brent Krahn? Quite possibly.

Goalies are tricky to gauge - you never really know until they get there.

The problem is that there is only one position: either you become an elite goalie and can play in the NHL (60 jobs, total), or you are a failure as a prospect.

It isn't like a forward, for example, where you might become an elite, franchise player, or maybe a solid 2nd liner, or there's always a 3rd liner, or find a way to make yourself valuable as a grinder/energy guy. There are no 4th-line-grinders between the pipes (those guys are Brent Krahns)

With goalies, it's all or nothing, so you need lots of them and you hope one turns out.

Brossoit is a better prospect than Ramo, IMO. But Ramo is closer to the NHL and will get his chance this year.

Like another poster said, I believe Gillies is the best prospect in the organization, with Brossoit 2nd and Ramo 3rd.

But until one of them actually becomes a legitimate NHL starter, it is all anybody's guess.
