Tampering rules apply to players as well. It's right in the CBA and every player's contract:
Quote:
10. The Player agrees he will not tamper with or enter into negotiations with any Player under SPC or reservation to any Club of the League for or regarding such Player's current or future services, without the written consent of the Club with which such Player is connected under penalty of a fine to be imposed by the Commissioner of the League.

I am a little surprised, but I'll bet players have a lot conversations about how things are at the shop.

Hmm. Iginla asks to be traded to the cup favourite. We look for reasons to call this trade bull####. This... is one of the more pathetic ones.
I doubt that Crosby calling Iginla would be Iggys deciding factor in leaving his family to go play in Pittsburgh, especially because Pittsburgh is quite honestly, looking like a fantasy roster. For a guy who wants a cup, Pittsburgh is the place to go, regardless of if Crosby calls him or not.

Who's calling the trade bull****? There are rumors of tampering... Just curious if it happened and what will come of it if true?
Not to mention the Boston angle ... Makes for an interesting story - if you don't like it move on...

Isn't the key here that the Flames would be the only team with a claim against the Pens, not Boston?

Well, even if Sid was talking to Iggy before the trade, he certainly isn't now.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Surely tampering happens all the time in the NHL, just that it's hard to prove because most GMs are smart enough to communicate with the player via a 3rd party and not directly. It's like trying to circumvent the cap; There's a fine line and most GMs know how to walk it.
I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Pittsburgh attempted to lure Iggy, or if most of the big-name UFAs are given unofficial offers prior to July 1st.

And I don't really have a big problem with that.
Pittsburgh made a lowball offer, and stood by it. The only conceivable reason that they would stand on a lowball offer, that they knew was not the best offer on the table, when they were obviously be willing to pay more to get the player, is because they knew they were going to get the player regardless.

Actually I don't think that's not quite true,I have been told Agostino was added in the 11th hour in replacement for Dustin Jeffrey...probably a wash but it saves a contract spot for the time being.
