Default Tampering?

Is there some question about the Pens tampering in the Iggy deal? First the tweet by Miller then I'm sure I heard Cherry say that Crosby talked to Iggy prior to the trade? Not trying to stir the pot - just wondering if this is true and wondering what may come of it...?

I highly doubt it. From the other thread:

On TSN the day after the trade there was the following direct interchange between Crosby and reporters
Quote:
Q) Sid have you talked to Iggy yet?

A) No, I have not.

Q) You didn't talk to him this morning? Or text him?

A) No, I haven't talked to him at any point.

Q) There was some talk you might have had a hand in suggesting this trade to Pens management?

A) (laughs) no, no one asked me anything. I think it's great but it had absolutely nothing to do with me.
The video should still be on TSN's website. It's an 8 min scrum with Crosby talking about the Iginla trade and recent Pens moves.

Probably nothing will come of it.

But even if it was conclusively proven that Crosby did contact Iginla the worst he could get is a fine. I suppose if they proved that Crosby was directed to do that by the team then there could be a more serious punishment for the team, but again it just doesn't seem likely at all.

What about a GM talking to a player? Didn't Chiarelli want to speak to Jarome about the trade?

Yeah but he asked for permission first from the Flames and was denied... it's not tampering if he has permission from the team that owns the player's contract.

I doubt it, but even if there was, there is no proof if no one confesses. There is no way the NHL would go so far as to get a warrant for phone records. It's not worth their trouble, nor would they want to piss off Crosby.

But it's likely nothing like tampering occurred. I would love it if it did though and we could prove it.

I know that idiot Healy speculated about this on PTS the other day.

He didn't have any proof, he just said he wouldn't be surprised if that's what swayed Jarome at the end, after the Bruin deal was done.

Thought this article would be a nice fit for this thread:

Quote:
The allure of playing with Sidney Crosby was too tempting for Jarome Iginla to pass up.

The former Calgary Flames captain joined Hockey Night in Canada’s Ron MacLean Saturday for an exclusive interview on Inside Hockey to talk about what lured him into joining the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Iginla, who was traded to the Penguins on Wednesday night in exchange for college forwards Kenneth Agostino and Ben Hanowski, along with Pittsburgh’s first-round pick in 2013, revealed Crosby had been courting him to join Pittsburgh, adding he couldn’t say no to playing with two superstars.

“There’s some truth to that,” Iginla said, when MacLean asked if Crosby helped sway his decision. “I did hear that Sid — I didn’t talk to him before — but he’d put in a good word and I really enjoyed playing with him at the Olympics and getting the chance to meet him.

So Syd is out drinking with the boys and says wouldn't it be neato to get Iggy. It gets back to Iginla by some convoluted means.

I'd bet damn near anything that there was tampering, in spirit if not in letter (but probably in letter too).

I'd also bet damn near anything that nothing ever comes of it.

And I don't really have a big problem with that.

Pittsburgh made a lowball offer, and stood by it. The only conceivable reason that they would stand on a lowball offer, that they knew was not the best offer on the table, when they were obviously be willing to pay more to get the player, is because they knew they were going to get the player regardless.

I believe that the tampering rules in the NHL only apply to management vs. Player and not player vs. Player communication. I'm not 100 % Sure that this is right but i know i have heard it on more than a couple of occasions.

Friedman says it can be player vs player

As i understand it, because the players are unionized the NHL cannot impose communication bans. Would you mind repeating what Friedman said please?

It sure looks like the bolded part is true. I don't see how anybody even thinks the Boston and Pitt trade proposals are even close to being similiar. While the Boston proposal was nothing great, it was a lot better "asset value wise" over the Pitt propsal.

Khokhlachev's asset value is probably greater than both players combined that came from Pitt.

Bartkowski is probably on par "asset value wise" with the other 2 and maybe worth more considering he is already playing in the AHL and ready for a cup of coffee in the NHL.
