Schneider isn't worth $4mil and isn't that good.
I think this signing will bite the Ducks later.

So, Ramo can't do it coming from the 2nd best league in the world, but Fasth, who is older, can do it coming from the 4th best league in the world?

He plays in a higher level league than Fasth was. Nobody knows if Ramo will be special or not, including you.

KHL is clearly better than the other European leagues. No one would argue otherwise.

I would say the KHL is better than the AHL skill-wise.

I think AHL is considered closer to the Swedish Elite League in talent then it is to the KHL.
I think they are roughly ranked:
1. NHL
2. KHL
3. AHL
4. SWE1
I have no idea how that would affect goaltenders and their success in the NHL though

I'm not getting my hopes up. The KHL have Bobrovsky in the top 5 and Curtis Sanford in the top 10 for goalies.

Not that anyone should get their hopes too high, but great goalies have come from every league. You could just as well list all the unimpressive top goalies in the AHL and draw the same conclusion. It's not about the league, it's about the individual.
But KHL comes after NHL, then there's another gap, and then you can discuss the strengths and weaknesses of all the other leagues.

NHL teams never learn, can't get rid of money fast enough.
2 year reward for 9 games work.

And as every Flames fan knows his play dropped off considerably before the ink was dry, eventually ending with a 30-28-11 record and leaving the Flames, once again, out of the playoffs.
I guess the benefit to the Ducks is the contract isn't as large or long as Turek's was. And they have a pretty darn good goalie in Hiller if Fasth goes into the toilet.
Still, it feels like a risky move, and unnecessary. He'll still be there near the end of the season, eagerly accepting a contract extension.

Not a very well researched post. Read this article:
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=655732
Take note of how hard this guy has worked to get where he is and continue to improve. He'll be there near the end of the season but probably worth a heck of a lot more and very close to UFA. Do you risk that when Perry and Getzlaf need to be re-signed and Hiller continues to fail?
IMO this was a great move. Takes balls, but this is a great move.

KHL is sticks and stones better than the AHL.
1. NHL
2. KHL
3. SEL
4. SM-Liiga
5. AHL.
That's my ranking.

Except when Turek got it, he was made one of the 3 highest paid goalies in the league at the time. Nice guy, terrible contract for a 1B goalie at best.
On the AHL vs. European leagues... It's really hard to compare as the AHL is a developmental league. Some of the product is sacrificed in order to develop players for the NHL. No other league in the world produces and prepares players for the NHL as well as the AHL does.
Having said that, I have been watching more European hockey lately and the quality is really good. Even the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga is a decent product.

Turek was a two time all-star was he not?
With the Stars and Blues? (Maybe just the blues?

No doubt the Ducks quickly inked Fasth to a new deal in the hopes of trading Hiller to make cap space for signing Perry and Getzlaf. Bob Murray knows that if he even loses one of them then the Ducks are going to be in deep trouble, especially if Selanne retires at the end of this season.
Personally I think this year is the Ducks' last window of opportunity to win a cup so Murray will be a buyer at the deadline to shore up their bottom 6 or defense. The best piece they have to offer in that regard is Hiller.

Remember when the Flamse signed Kiprusoff to a 3 year 10 million dollar deal after a 38 game season and playoff run in a 39 million dollar cap environment? That paid off quite well. It's Fasth money, and it's a fair amount of risk. As they say high risk, high reward.
