Most fun I've had so far is with Wreck It Ralph. So that.

Bring on the Hobbit.

I have the same sentiment about The Avengers. I'm going to boycott all Marvel movies from here on out.

I can see you doing that after Captain America or Incredible Hulk, or even Iron Man 2.

Avengers I enjoyed though. Looper I enjoyed as well. I just don't think Looper is as good as the hype.

You don't understand how The Avengers could be on people's list?

It had the best climax action scene of all time and had Thor, Iron Man, the Hulk and Captain America in one movie. That's why its on everyone's list.

Never mind the fact the movie was funny and just a good movie.

1. John Carter
2. Seven Psychopaths
3. Lincoln
4. The Master
5. The Grey

I'm pretty sure Django unchained will end up being the best when all is said and done.

I heard The Grey will be getting an oscar push for best picture and best actor. I liked it but I don't know if its best picture worthy. I don't like the way it depicts wolves either.

the Guard was the best movie of 2011. It's as close to a perfect movie I have seen in a looong time. Comedy, action, drama. Those brothers are my favourite filmakers right now.

Just wasn't my cup of tea. I know it's blasphemy around these parts to not like Marvel movies, but The Avengers was just more of the same.

Looper, The Avengers, and The Dark Knight Rises all were reviewed very well, and will be on many top ten critic lists. How people are "shocked" that they are so well liked on here is a tad confusing. Sure some people may not like them, but the great majority do. There are very few movies out there these days that nearly everyone likes.

I don't think any of them will get much attention from the Academy (outside of FX awards), but The Dark Knight Rises has an outside shot at getting a best picture nod. Dark Knight was robbed a couple years back, and DKR could receive one for ending the trilogy, and as more of an "overall" nomination. It won't win of course, but with ten spots open it may just get in there.

Nothing in 2012 beats out Drive though. That movie keeps getting better for me after each viewing, simply an outstanding movie. I would even say there wasn't a single 5 Star movie this year (DKR and Argo would both get 4 1/2 from me).

See but I don't understand how Looper was reviewed so well. It's pretty generic.

You're pretty generic. But seriously, more people need to watch End of Watch (when it's released on DVD).

BTW: I do agree that Looper was pretty vanilla. I would put Safehouse, Lawless, and End of Watch at least for discussion as top 5-10.

It's funny how much my opinion on Ben Affleck has changed since he has become a director. I used to be at the point where I couldn't stand anything he was in, and made sure to avoid all of his movies. Aside from Changing Lanes I can't think of one movie of his I liked in the last decade.

However, as a director I would rate his three movies (Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo) as among the three best movies of the last five years. Gone Baby Gone is probably my favorite of the three, which is the only one he didn't act in.

If he can continue to put out such top quality movies he may become one of the must see filmmakers out there. Even Spielberg hasn't put out a level of similar quality in over a decade now.

Of course this all happened when he left JLo for Garner, so it seems like it took a correct change in his personal life to make an improvement in his professional side.

How could 'Rises have any hope of ever getting a best picture nod? The film is a mess from beginning to end, it blows my mind how people think it's a good movie. I understand personal tastes, some movies I've seen I didn't like, but recognize they are very well done and deserve accolades. But 'Rises is a whole lot of expensive nonsense, it should be in the running for worse picture of the year.

People must be clinging to the legacy of the first two Nolan films and wanting desperately for the 3rd to be as good, but sadly it's not, not even close. Now John Carter, that's on another level of bad, it is one of the most expensive flops of all time for a reason.

I'd have to say Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy was probably my favorite movie from 2011. I'll have to check out The Guard.

Agreed. I finally watched it last week after giving into the 'You've GOT to watch this!' comments from my friends and family. It was definitely an entertaining movie, but groundbreaking, spectacular & epic? Nah.

There are still a number of films I have yet to see so my list would probably change. As it stands:

1. Argo
2. Seven Psychopaths
3. Cabin in the Woods
4. The Avengers
5. Skyfall
6. Dredd
7. The Raid: Redemption
8. Looper
9. Chronicle
10. Wreck-it Ralph / 21 Jump Street

Worst films 2012:

Haywire
The Grey
Prometheus
Resident Evil: Retribution

Biggest dissapointments of the year:

Prometheus & Dark Knight Rises.
