I better chuck it out then lol
but how do you know when something like that is 'bad' and what would spoil in it? It doesn't have any dairy in it ?

I tried the recipe above, and it does taste quite close but I think you have to get the right soy sauce. I used a light soy sauce from TnT and it is super salty. might see if there is a low sodium soy sauce or something.
Pretty easy to make anyways.

There's a restaurant in Edmonton that sells a sauce that tastes exactly the same to me. I always grab a few bottles whenever I'm up there.

the Sawmill sauce is very good.

If you want an affordable option for the japanese village sauce there is a Superstore branded product in a large size, sesame flavour

it will sub for either in a pinch
