No PS4 game you've ever played had a 20GB update, either. But sure, use one title for your observation.
Updating is done overnight once you have a title installed.
It's a shame you didn't do a digital download, because you would have been able to launch right into the game on launch day if you had. Updates and everything were already installed and ready to rock when I wanted to play.

No, talking about the install here too -- that took over an hour (which is ridiculous), then I had to download and install the patch which took another hour. Sunset Overdrive took over an hour to install after it had downloaded too. Console is just slow with installs and I'm not sure why. PS4 games are installed in five minutes max.

Here is what it was like a year ago (obviously a lot of varied updates to both consoles during that time). Also assumes you have a good internet connection of course. I haven't seen a good summary of how things shake out these days.
http://kotaku.com/installing-xbox-on...ong-1471191836
Assassin's Creed IV:
Xbox One (offline, no update): 5 minutes 50 seconds
Xbox One (with update, fastest connection): 7 minutes 2 seconds
Xbox One (with update, 10Mbps connection): 10 minutes 32 seconds
PS4: 42 seconds
The rest of these were tested on our office Wi-Fi which is around 9-11Mbps. It may have been faster on a wired connection, but you can compare your own connection speed here. These are our results:
Need For Speed Rivals:
XBO: 09:25 (including update)
PS4: 00:32
Just Dance 2014:
XBO: 08:48 (including update)
PS4: 00:45
NBA Live 14:
XBO: 16:26 (including update)
PS4: 00:35
FIFA 14:
XBO: 16:06 (including update)
PS4: 00:34
Madden 25:
XBO: 9:38 (including update)
PS4: 00:38

The Xbox One must do some kind of decompression or decryption or something.
The 360 and PS3 used to be the opposite, PS3 downloads and updates would take FOREVER and the 360 ones seemed much faster, I assumed because the PS3 ones were compressed or encrypted and the 360 ones just came down ready to run.

Do you think that it's worth getting the PS4 + a game around the $400 mark now or wait 2 weeks for black friday related deals?

I'd imagine black Friday deals to be marginally better like getting a year of PS+ ($50) for $30 as part of a pack, discounted controllers or maybe an extra one when you buy the console. If you're up for some black Friday shopping, might as well wait and see and pick up any on sale titles the same day.

To be fair, it's not an uncommon issue. It took me a few hours to get it done myself. I gave up and left it to chug through while I did other stuff so I don't have an exact time. The significant other wasn't very happy at all though. She managed to sneak in an hour with game after it was finally done.

The whole "digital only" thing seems a ways away . . . can't imagine having to download 50 GB plus with 10-20GB (content) patch for every game yet. Regardless of platform.

On a related note, it was nice to jump into World of Warcraft last night with the expansion already preloaded and updated, no hassle required. It all happened while we played Hearthstone the last few weeks I assume! Very handy. I can remember getting back from a midnight release with the install disc and struggling with install errors and junk trying to get Wrath of the Lich King going back then.

In the continuing thread theme of 'TorqueDog putting his foot in his mouth', I decided to uninstall and re-install whilst running a stopwatch.
The game took 47 minutes to get to 25% installed at which point you could start and play some content. At the moment it is at 38% installed after 1 hour and 13 minutes. This is simply installing from the disc -- I already have the 15GB patch. All told the full install will likely take around three hours -- I'll keep everyone updated though. It appears my initial estimate was actually generous.
EDIT: had lunch, took a shower, watched Jeopardy. Game is now 69% installed after 2 hours and 20 minutes. The Xbox got bored and went into standby mode.
Edit 2: We've now hit 90% after 3 hours and 4 minutes. Actual numbers!

It took you 47 minutes to get to a point where you could start playing the game. Once you hit that point, who gives a crap? Play the game and shut it.

Something might be wrong with his system TBH.
Without the update I am at 30% after 8 minutes.

So back to Ubisoft, it sounds like some of the frame rate issues with Assassin's Creed Parity can be alleviated by making sure the console is offline.
I look forward to news coming out that the game has actually been mining bitcoins.

Oh and it's NPD time again. Looks like it's 10 straight months for the PS4.
Can the Xbone turn it around in a month with another price drop, Sunset Overdrive AND Master Chief? (I have to believe so)
Tune in next month to the THUNDERDOME!!

You would have to think that Xbox One will win November.
If I was choosing a system to buy right now it would probably be the XBox One.
Just has an advantage in the recent time frame for exclusives (Sunset Overdrive, MCC, and Halo).
Overall I still prefer the PS4 but just in looking at this current window (October to December) Xbox one has the edge software wise.

I just don't think sunset overdrive is going to move consoles. The game did not seem to be anything earth shattering, and was released in a busy month.
Halo: MCC is a different story
