Ubisoft is the problem. There is way more chaos and crazy #### going on in a game like Sunset Overdrive and for AC:U to have the problems it's having, it's all on Ubi, period.
Which begs the question, has Ubi passed EA now?
On a more serious note, the delayed embargo, the parity comments, etc. kinda makes sense when you look at what happened with Watch Dogs earlier this year. I'm sure they realized that AC:U simply was not ready but could not afford to delay the game like they did with Watch Dogs. Their stock took a 25-30% hit when Watch Dogs was delayed.
If they could keep the embargo for AC:U on release day and release it anyhow, they could still get pre-order sales through and ride out patches for the next several months (maybe).
I kinda hope that is the cynical logic. But perhaps they simply didn't give a crap about the quality, padded it with micro-transactions and shoved it out.
AC:U is pretty much the only multi-platform game that has performed worse on the PS4 versus the Xbone. They're pretty much par or better for every other game released over the last year.
Given the ridiculous condition of the launch version of this single particular game, I'd chalk this more to a one off rushed job than anything. If you're cynical, you could also maybe chalk it up to the fact that this is the very first time that Microsoft has a marketing deal for a Assassin's Creed game. Or the stupid parity comments from the CEO earlier.
Personally, I view the PS4 as my likely default for multi-platform games at this stage. At least for console TV gaming.
EDIT: Which of course doesn't preclude the fact that you'll likely want to grab an Xbone for the respective exclusives at some point. Certainly MCC is worth it.
Even Digital Foundry can't understand the performance difference.
In the meantime, the reasons behind the resolution parity and Xbox One's performance advantage remain something of a mystery. We know that the Microsoft hardware has more CPU time available, and that animation and AI tend to stress processor hardware heavily. The sheer volume of objects on-screen means that the CPU is working overtime in order to prepare the draw-call data for the graphics hardware. There's also the possibility that the Microsoft compiler may be producing more efficient code than its Sony equivalent, though it's hard to believe that even this combination of potential factors could explain the performance differential we see here in many places. Quite why PS4 isn't rendering at a higher resolution is certainly a bit of a puzzler - in addition to GPU resources, it is worth bearing in mind that memory could be a factor too, especially bearing in mind the complexity of Assassin's Creed Unity's next-gen renderer. Of course, the reality may be rather more mundane: we may simply be looking at a game where the developers ran out of time - there's certainly the sense that both console versions of the game aren't running at their best.
Actually COD AW has a better frame rate on Xbox One as well;
I imagine the PS4 is being stretched in some cases to make 1080p which is hampering performance in some cases.
With COD on the Xbone, they've chosen to use a dynamic resolution to maintain a more stable framerate. So they sacrificed and cut the resolution 30 to 40% below full HD in places for that additional stability.
For COD on the PS4, they chose to keep the resolution fixed at the full high definition 1080p resolution and let the framerate fluctuate when things get crazy. I'd imagine that they could have done the same and keep dynamic resolution for an even better frame rate stability if they wanted to.
It's a give and take issue. They make a good point though, maybe console games will more allow user choice on that in the future.
It's pretty ridiculous that the brand new console generation is having so much trouble getting a stable gaming experience at 1080p. Relatively modest gaming PC's have been able to do this for years now, and now you have affordable cards like the GTX 970 (sub-$400) that are almost able to do 4K resolutions in single card configs. With every other console generation I can remember they were a decent leap ahead of your average gaming PC at the time (granted it was a short lived advantage) but the PS4/Xbox One doesn't even come close this time. Quite disappointing
I just got my ACU today in the mail from the E3 $49 deal. Decided from the reviews that it's not going to be a game I finished so I traded it in at EB for Alien Isolation. I'm just not down for games like this and Destiny that are half baked games that you get nickelled and dimmed to get the full experience.
for the first time in this thread (or perhaps this message board in general) I agree with you 100%
Good grief is Xbox One ever slow at installing and updating games. Master Chief Collection took TWO hours to get going last night -- and I'm talking just installing off of the disc. That's absurd -- every PS4 game I've played is installed and ready to go in less than ten minutes. Still hate the UI too, and Master Chief Collection is completely broken online at the moment. It happens with launches, but its a bit frustrating when me and my friend couldn't even get the co-op campaign to work properly online.
Buying an Xbox One has done little to sway my position on the console race.

Could it have taken that long because of the 20GB update that was required?
Listening to the Giantbomb podcast (they had recorded it before the AC:U embargo and the microtransaction server went online):
It's all conjecture because the game is not out yet and we don't know where that stuff stands. But I will say it looks super bad. The idea of "increased melee strength for 3 minutes" is offensively disgusting.
. . .
I'm gonna guess that it's going to be real money. But maybe they'll surprise me and it'll be some weird crazy thing where "No, it's our hilarious joke."
Well it seems as though they've taken it to an entirely new level. Sounds like they've shoe-horned the nickel and diming practice of F2P into a full priced AAA game. Kudos to you Ubisoft...
Holy crap, I was almost crying at that video you posted chemgear. The music fit so perfectly. Hilarious.

No PS4 game you've ever played had a 20GB update, either. But sure, use one title for your observation.
Updating is done overnight once you have a title installed.
It's a shame you didn't do a digital download, because you would have been able to launch right into the game on launch day if you had. Updates and everything were already installed and ready to rock when I wanted to play.

Yeah, Xbox one installs are deceiving since they blend the disk install and the update together.
I prefer the PS4 method of letting me play offline while the patch downloads in the background.
Additionally a 20GB patch of any kind is ridiculous IMO.
With these huge day one patches companies need to start providing the option of downloading the patch before release for physical purchases too.

I'd definitely agree with that. As I mentioned earlier, the OS updates that were initially mandatory and installed when you powered on the console were made optional with a timer (meaning that by a certain date, your console would automatically install it) due to many employees' significant others not being very impressed by the need to update the console before watching TV. I can see something similar to this coming in the future for games if it isn't already available (I wouldn't know myself since all my updates install overnight).
The MCC Day One patch was pretty widely discussed online though. Shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone in this thread, anyway.
Not sure if this is the right spot to ask but here it is.
I have set up a sub account on my ps4 for my kids. Each one has there own. I purchased the season pass for Lego batman 3 using my account (master) When my son went to play using his account I checked for the season pass and it asked to purchase it again. So I guess I am wondering if season passes transfer to each psn account on a ps4 or do I have to buy each account the season pass. If so that would suck.
