I am back and forth on which of JG and MT I would prefer to have back if we could only have one.
I don’t ever recall thinking we should trade JG but there were a few times (albeit just a few) over the last few years where I was down on Matthew, thinking at the time that Tre should canvass the market.

Might have been interested but I don’t think they were on Tkachuks list (nashville)

Especially when your record is poor and way worse than last season. Very Oiler like for a team that can't keep the puck out of their own net.
Ya points

Cool.
Last night against Tampa Bay (the team he supposedly hates so much) he had 0 points and -2 on the night.
Tonight he had 0 points and was -3 in a very bad loss at home to Seattle.
That's a pretty bad weekend.

I’m sorry both of your favorite hockey teams are mediocre this year

I don't understand some of the takes saying that Tkachuk is much better than Huberdeau and Weegar. The trade was of 1 year of Tkachuk with the Flames, what's that worth?
I mean hindsight 20/20 it looks like Florida hit a home run with the player. However at the time of the trade you were trading a year of a 105pt player for year of a 115pt player, and a #1/2 D, with an additional 1st and prospect. I also think it's easier to score a lot of points in Florida's system right now, meanwhile the Flames are trying to play a style that will give them playoffs success. I have no idea if that's going to be the case.
Also, in the first 25 games under Sutter Tkachuk had 3G, 12A, 15P +4. Huberdeau in comparison has 4G, 13A, 17P, +6 in 25 games.

I was spoiled last year in the regular season. They both even won a round of the playoffs.
And then round 2....god it was heartbreaking.
I've earned a down year overall. i can't be too mad.

Who never showed up in the playoffs? Who's biggest weakness (skating) is an absolute necessity to be effective in the playoffs?
I'll hold my judgement on Huberdeau till I see a collection of season and post season performance.
The Flames were never winning squat with a team that was lead by both Thachuk and Gaudreau.

I know the Panthers have had injuries but is it any wonder the Jets are night and day better with the same roster while the Panthers look kind of like the Jets used to? There's a common denominator and it's one of the most mediocre head coaches in the history of the NHL. The guy has coached over 1700 games in the NHL and his career winning percentage is only .528. I don't understand why he continues to get hired when it's clear what he's going to deliver.

^Yeah, I wasn't really big on the Maurice hiring when it happened. His teams will never be really bad, but they're never really good either. There has been some roster changes that would have already affected their performance, and recently there have been a string of injuries to key veterans, but he's just not getting much out of the talent he has lately.
I hope to be wrong, but I don't see Maurice being the answer.

For 1 year of Huberdeau and Weegar, plus futures.
Plus Tkachuk was signed as part of the trade, so Florida got 8 years of a talented and young player. The fact he signed as part of the trade increased the return for the Flames.

He said he wouldn't sign with the Flames and gave them a small list of teams....you can't actually not think this was a major factor.
It was one year of Tkachuk
Anyway he can score 100 points and his team can allow 300 goals and miss the playoffs. Big win.

Agree, it was a headscratcher of a signing then and looks so now even more. I have a hard time figuring out what type of game he wants the team to play, they don't seem to have an identity.

Not quite in my mind.
1 year guaranteed from Tkachuk for the potential for more seasons from two upper roster players.
Tkachuk wasn't coming back here for sure. They traded for two players that wanted to be here and then proved it.
