I like the player. He could very well be an impact player and a core piece. He could also very well not be that, but if he comes cheap (a couple of seconds), I'd be good with taking the shot.

The team doesn't need a Necas. We have that in the lineup.
The last thing we need is a player coming here to pad his stats and win us games we have no business winning. That is how you get stuck in that 11-13 range in the conference. We need stars on the team, and players who can take over a game.
Necas is a hard no.

For you, he's a hard no (and I kind of agree the Flames should be looking to bottom out over the next two years). But from what Conroy has said, he's very much the type of player the Flames want.
I can't understand how you're so certain Necas can't be a game breaker, and I certainly don't see a right shooting, young centre/winger who can put up points in the Flames' line-up.

A 6'2" right-shot, 25YO C is is something we don't need and already 'have that in the lineup'?
Since when?

The most important assets to the Flames at this point should be their own first-round picks in '24, '25, and '26, followed closely by the other top-3-round picks they acquire via trade. Keep the picks, if anything use them to maneuver on draft day to get the players you absolutely covet. But only if you must.
Acquiring the 'could pop if given more opportunity' players will only compromise what the organization needs to accomplish over the next three years, which is to acquire top-end talent in the draft.
Hoping Conroy and management avoid these sexy temptations and run this for what it is: a small-market Canadian team that needs to draft and develop talent at all costs.

While I agree not selling the future for high (Top prospects, High Firsts)but if the acquisition cost isn't high, what's the big issue into looking? He is young center and has scored 70 points, 55 last year in a limited role for the Canes.
How do you know he isnt a gamebreaker? If we keep our 9th overall, Coronato,Honzek,Wolf,Bruz,Zary,Pospisil,Porier, I cant see how adding him is a negative?
Like if the most is Vancouver's 1st + Pelletier/Mang type package for example you gotta consider it.
As long as we have Huberdeau,Weegar,Kadri,Coleman on long deals this team wont bottom out like the Sharks, Blackhawks so regardless of Necas coming into the team we are stuck in the 11-13 position for awhile.

I'd like to see him Center Kuzmenko and Sharangovich. Seems like a dynamic idea. They all might disappear for ten games at a time but they'll make up for when they go scorched earth the next 15.

I don't agree. We saw down the stretch how this team stacks up, and it's not good.
These players don't prevent this team from finishing bottom 10, even bottom 5.

First of all he is a winger, not a center. HIs team currently views him as a winger, most likely because he can't play down the middle and stinks at faceoffs.
The team is filled with wingers, and 40 point players which is what he is at the moment.
The team needs to bottom out the next few seasons. Necas does not fit that.
It would be stupid of the organization to trade assets for a soon to be 26 year old, who is quitting on a winning team because he wants to pad his stats.

First time following the Calgary flames? This is what they do. Everything you think they shouldn't.
I'm still reeling from the Hamonic trade.

He has taken 2.16 faceoffs a game over the past 5 years and won about 40% of the draws he has taken. If Necas is a center I sure hope we put a winger on his line who can play center, take draws and wins draws. Hard to rely on a top center who wins less than 1 draw per game.

We sure love to annoint players who play Wing as future centers around here ! Except it is almost always the other way where players move from Center to the wings .

Yes…. That is part of the position. Most of it is playing D in your own zone.

I think we should go back to our roots and move a dman to Center like what was attempted at times with Paul Reinhart. Don’t trade for RH C, just move Weegar there. No need to get a guy like Necas who does not play center when we have dmen we can move up to center.

Ya, Necas has never done that part of the job either. But maybe he can learn a new position at the age of 26.

Quitting on a winning team? How do you know? Couldn't it be that he just believes himself and Hurricanes don't have room for him?
The guy was used almost exclusively as a centre in 2022/23 (where he won 45% of his faceoffs) and about half the time this year (so do they really just view him as a winger?).
His faceoff winning absolutely sucked this past year, but before that, he sat right around where Aho is at. Does Aho suck at centre too? Or could Necas just not be that good because he's yo-yo'd in and out of the centre role?

Necas reminds me of the reinheart trade to Florida.
He's a good player that will most likely have a surge on another team.
But part of why reinhart is so succeafull in Florida is because they have a really good team outside if him. They have a Barkov, chucky bennett etc... reinhart doesn't make or break that team.
Put reinhart on the flames and we don't become a contender.
That's how I feel about Necas. It's not the type of move the flames need to make right now. It's the type of move we make in a couple years once we have re-drafyed our foundational pieces.
It's a deal that would make sense for the canucks right now for example.

So weird to just make stuff up.
Aho has taken more faceoff in each of the last 3 years than Necas has in his career. In the season that Necas was allegedly used “almost exclusively as a center” Aho had almost two and half times as many faceoffs. Aho has been between 51-54% of the dot for the last 4 seasons, Necas’s best season is 46.2%. It is possible to just look up these stats on the internet.

People want a winning team, a championship team, but don't want to be patient to build it.
It's just like our management, see a shiny new toy and jump on it. Get stuck competing for 8th spot, but finish in no mans land in 10th or 11th get a mid round pick and repeat.

Trading pick 9 would kill my interest in the Flames for a solid five years. Who gives a #### at that point.
