But it does seem they have been working. Nice to see they're also working on a hotseat version, that's such a classic
It's obvious the game was released before it was finished, but then again that was pretty much to be expected. I still feel good about this game, although I'm waiting for at least this patch before starting a new game.

The was a major patch released on the weekend. It fixed a bunch of bugs and tweaked the AI a little. I've noticed the AI controls battle a little better; they at least try to protect their own damaged units now.
The first DLC was released today. There is a Mongol Campaign and the Babylon Civ with Nebachadnezzar, if you didnt buy the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game. Babylon's trait is Ingenuity, which gives a free Great Scientist when writing is discovered and double Great Scientist growth.

Anyone else playing on Emporer - they still give you the world for peace but they are much better at defending and attacking imo. Still no catapults for cities but things are getting better.

Mac version released today!
Edit: It's available through Steam or GameAgent. It's a SteamPlay game on Steam though... meaning, you get both the PC and Mac versions in your one purchase. Those of us who have already bought the game (through Steam or in store), our Steam copies have already been upgraded to the SteamPlay version, so we can install on our Macs as well.
...provided, of course, everyone hasn't already gone back to Civ IV.
Edit: Although, that SteamPlay stuff applies to Civ IV as well.

Quick Question for those who know more about computers than me.
Here are the specs from the website for mac for Civ V:
Operating System: 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard)
CPU Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (Dual-Core)
CPU Speed: 2.4 GHz
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Hard Disk Space: 8 GB
Video Card (ATI): Radeon HD 2600
Video Card (NVidia): Geforce 8600
Here are my specs:
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
Type: Display
Bus: PCI
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Would my computer be able to handle this game? or would the lag be too much. I love Civ, but don't want to spend the money if it won't work well with my specs. Main thing I see is that my CPU speed is 2.0 and minimum is 2.4, would that be too much of a difference, or does it even matter.
Thanks for you help.
Rory.

You will be okay with most things on Low. It will still be choppy if you zoom out a lot and scroll around, but it is playable for sure.
The biggest gripe, as I have a similar computer to yours, is that as you move to industrial age and later, the time between turns when it is cranking out all the calculations for the AI will take 3-4 minutes (if not more).

I got mine the day it came out but was just able to install it now. It won't even play for me. I think too many aspects of my computer don't meet the minimum requirements. It won't even start to play. I try to run it, and the screen flashes black for a second... and then nothing.
Now I am just trying to convince my wife we need a new computer.

Anyone have thoughts on the game? I liked it at first, but man, it is filled with bugs and gameplay issues.
Edit: nevermind, i just went back and read some of the older posts. how'd i miss those? seems like everyone has similar thoughts. This game is disappointing.
I have been thinking of switching back to civ IV. AI is terrible, diplomacy is a joke, tech tree is linear even though I'm pretty sure they said you can pick a branch and follow it while bypassing certain techs, there are so many useless buildings in the game it's quite unbelievable, barbarians are ######ed, AI doesn't use naval forces, they never invade from continent to continent. If they do send units out, there is never a naval vessel to protect them, it's easy pickins sinking perfectly good units out on the open waters.
Couldn't they have record more than one saying for the English speaking leaders? "WOULD YOU LIKE TO ENTER INTO A TRADE AGREEMENT WITH ENGLAND?" Hearing that 80 times in one game is freaking annoying.
Peace agreements are insanely stupid. If you take a city or two and they offer peace, they will give you everything they have.
If a war is at a stalemate, the AI will ask for everything you have. Why the F would I give you 4 cities in a peace agreement if you haven't even taken one from me yet?
I was in a stalemate with Bismarck, who was much stronger than me (he could have crushed me had he known what he was doing), I didn't want the war to go on because I couldn't last, so I built a nuke and an aircraft carrier and went to bomb Berlin. I offered peace before I launched and he rejected it, so I nuked Berlin. I was hoping that nuking their capital would have changed their minds into a peace treaty, but no. Same old same old.
I could go on forever about the number of things wrong with this game.
I really can't wait for the patch. it will be a miracle if they actually fix what is wrong with this game.

To tell you the truth I have not played this game since the first couple of weeks. I really woudl have preferred it if they had kept to the formula of the previous games but tweaked and updated it.
Sigh.... I will give Civ V another try after installing the update.

I'm patiently waiting, hoping, that Civ V will eventually be good. But until I hear some more positive comments, I won't be buying it.

Have they patched hotseat mode in yet?
I'm not booting the game up again until hotseat is in there.

Man this thread just bummed me out. Just picked up Civ 5 at Best Buy and was super amped to play it, just came here to see if there were any tips or something mentioned in this thread. I hadn't read anything about Civ 5, I just had 4 and liked it so figured I'd get the new one. Sounds like its not even worth playing..
Worst part is, I just gave away Civ 4 to my little cousin. Worst.

Civ 5 is a train wreck. Terrible AI, boring gameplay, and dumbed down everything

It is a trainwreck, but that shouldn't stop you sainters. You may find that you enjoy the game. I play it from time to time. Yes, the glaring issues can be bothersome, but it is still a decent game. Make your mind up for yourself instead of listening to us saying how bad the game is.

What difficulty levels are you guys playing on? Emporer was difficult, Immortal is brutal.
Change the map to small continents, put 14 total players and remove all city states, ruins etc.
My only complaint per say is that the AI seems to expand far to quickly and will build cities in terrible locations (like the middle of a desert).
I dont start on my campaign of death until I have at least 3 swordsman/catapults, 3-4 archers.
For me, the combat improvement trumps everything else that people dont like in the game.
