He was 7th in the NHL in drawn penalties.
He had a respectable 25 points despite shooting just 3.5%
He can play all three forward positions, and on any line as needed.

He's a very valuable piece who fits the age range this management team has and is targeting. This was just his 2nd NHL season. It would be silly to trade such an asset barring a massive and unrealistic return.
7th in penalties drawn league wide is crazy! Wow, didn't know that. That's super impressive given the minutes he plays.

Tonight provided a great glimpse at what is coming down the pipeline.

We have too many players that will deserve spots next year. It will be a very interesting offseason.

Im now more in the "trade Coleman in the offseason" versus waiting until the deadline.

Trade Out:
Andersson
Coleman
Bean (or waive)
Miromanov (or waive)

Forwards:
Huberdeau
Kadri
Backlund
Forst
Farabee
Zary
Coronato
Sharangovich
Lomberg
Pospisil
Klapka
Morton
Kerins

That's 13 already, without considering players like Suniev, Honzek or Stromgren that may be pushing for spots as well. Plus any UFA's or players brought in via trading Andersson and Coleman.

Defense:
Weegar
Bahl
Pachal
Parekh
Brzustewicz

Leaves 2 spots. Kuznetsov, Solvyov, Kuznetsov or Grushinkov could all be ready to make the jump, and I wouldnt be surprised to see at least 1 of them push hard in camp. LD could be a major UFA target as well.

Re-Sign Vladar. He had some very good performances down the stretch. Gives some leeway until Sergeev can make the jump. I still think Cooley also has NHL backup potential.

I think the team is going to be much more competitive than people imagine, and we'll have a surplus of players and picks to potentially package and make the team better, now.

I don't think it's likely that Bourque will sign an offer sheet with the Flames, but I do think it's likely that he signs an offer sheet with somebody.
You may have missed my "or another team" at the end of my post.

Lol this guy, turns out they did play at a 96 point pace...imagine being this condecending and this wrong

At this point in his career, Bourque is not likely to sign an offer for less money just for the chance of getting more minutes. The centre position for the Flames is pretty wide open, anyway, with only Kadri a lock to be in the top six.

I think he'll get offers from more than one team as an RFA, and if Dallas can't find cap space to re-sign him, he'll probably sign whichever offer sheet pays the most. The high bidder will have the most skin in the game, and therefore an incentive to recoup their investment by playing him as much as possible.

If we were picking top 2... would we want Misa (center!) or would we want Schaefer to potentially (eventually) pair with Parekh?

(Edit: I'm still pretty partial to Martone, even though he's a winger.)

Schaefer is awesome, but the injuries worry me a bit. I’d go Misa for sure

What to do with Dan Vladar?

Seravalli on the Fan just said if he asks anything above 2.5 he'd let him walk and the Flames will be happy to go with Cooley, he does have a one-way next year. Wonder if Valadar's steady play in the 2nd half has priced him out of Calgary.

If you were picking top 2 and you had your d corps depth stacked, you had your goalie of the future locked and loaded, and a good plethora of wingers but had no centers depth to speak of outside of two 36+ year olds and a couple of u25 guys, you're not taking a center? The one thing to ultimately potentially finish that re tool?

I am excited to see what Kerins can do. He really has shown that he can be an NHLer. I am excited to see what he does this offseason. I think he might be a top 9 forward next year.

I'd want Parekh's friend and junior teammate who is also a center

I agree with you that the flames have too many young D that need a spot:

Parekh
Kuznetsov
Poirier
Solovyov
Brzustewicz

If they trade Andersson and dump Bean and Miromanov you don’t have enough spots. Especially if Hanley comes back. I could see them packaging one or two of them in a trade for younger forwards. No use hanging on to all of them if there’s no where to put them.

I don’t necessarily agree on the forward front. I don’t see any young forwards that are better than what’s already on the roster unless there’s a big change over the off season. This is the area that I think the Flames could make the biggest gain via trades. They have a surplus of Defensemen this is why I think there will be some trades at some point.

I would resign Vladar if he wants to come back. He’s a good goalie and team mate. I doubt you’d find better on the open market.

The Flames need goal scoring. I do not see that anywhere in their system.

Also bet Conroy will worry about upsetting the chemistry in the locker room by going too crazy. It’s the team’s biggest strength in my mind. They have to stay above the cap floor too which I think will happen via resigning RFA and UFAs.

This will be a very interesting offseason.

Curious what the Flames will do with a couple players

First is Andersson, is he signed or traded

Second is, does Vladar return or will he try to find a better solution.

Wonder if the Devils is an option.

I’m in the bring back Vladar camp now. I crapped on him all season but I think him and Wolf make a great duo and the team seems to love him and he’s a great guy to have around.

And yes after many many seasons of watching Kipper start every game we need a capable backup that the team plays for.

He was solid after a shaky start. I think he outplayed Wolf for stretches as well.

I agree. I was against Vladar all year also, but he played well down the stretch. I just doubt he wants to be a sure backup, rather go to a spot where he has a chance to win the job.

I think it would be neat to have a second Kadri for an extra 4 or 5 years once our current Kadri is gone. Let's do it.
