I think the flames end up with at least one more first over the next 3 years as well

Bahl’s fine and the first will help out in three or four years. But, next season will be painful.

That is the quote. I am having a pretty hard time spinning this into a trade that keeps them a playoff competitive team. Starting goalie for a third pairing dman and a 1st. I really see the commitment lol

Given the incredible amount of cap room over the next two years would also love to see what Buffalo would include to avoid buying out Skinner.
As for the trade it could easily turn into the 14th overall pick and a dman who has played almost 2 complete seasons in the NHL before his 24th birthday. Not a bad piece of business by Conroy.

Yeah but the same people are flipping out because he said the word playoff.
We have been constantly telling the same posters, look at his actions. He still has to sell the team to the public. What do you want him to say? Come out and watch the Flames get caved in and pay a premium doing it.
What I am having a hard time understanding is how people view Kuzmenko and Miramanov as win now pieces.
Conroy should just keep his mouth shut.

|
Insider shared legit rumours that the Flames and Devils were negotiating a deal for Markstrom.
Fitzgerald says the Devils were open to moving the 10th OA pick.
Pundits and fans linked the two and concluded that the 10th OA would be moving in the deal for Markstrom. But that was always speculation by insiders (and wishful thinking on the part of fans).

This whole rebuild is such a cluster#### because of Treliving.
The Huberdeau deal is one of the biggest screwups in recent league history, but even worst is the Monahan deal.
If Florida somehow doesn't make the playoffs next year the Flames are going to lose their pick unless it's 1st overall.
That's the worst part about this Markstrom trade, it's nice to see the Flames actually tearing down but the way the Panthers are collapsing in the finals man is there a ton of risk next year. Really hard to watch this all right now.

So since it’s too 10 protected, does that mean we lose the 1st or does it flip to another year?? Can’t seem to find any information on the exact conditions

So, Bahl sucks. He's big, and sucks. Third pairing defenceman who takes penalties.

Bahl has above average defensive metrics in the NHL... at 23 playing tough minutes.

Getting a 1st rounder for a 34 year old goaltender is a win for me.

No kidding. Too lazy to look it up, but how often do goalies even get traded for 1st rounders, let alone a 34 year old goalie? While coming off a good season, he alternates between good and bad quality seasons and he did that even with the Canucks. Just goes to show how good Conroy did to get the unprotected 1st from Vegas a few months ago. Extremely rare to see unprotected 1sts get moved and those are quickly becoming, if not already, the most precious asset involved in a trade.
This move very clearly makes room for Wolf to grab the top job as the season goes on and lets him find his groove. Looking forward to seeing his career progress from this point on. I know nothing about Bahl, but young big 23 year old D should hopefully work out on a team that has room for him. We'll see.
All in all a good trade.

I wish they wouldn't have rushed out to re-up Huberdeau so fast after the trade. Seeing how he did for the year / leaving the option open to flip him at the deadline would have been fine. But there were fan/media optics of the wheels falling off for the Flames with everyone leaving that they had to nip in the bud I guess.
The Monahan deal was just bad and more knee-jerk reaction to try to silence the masses by moving some cap & bringing in a big fish free agent. Kadri hasn't been terrible but I think most would have been fine with Monahan still here since the moves, instead of Kadri (plus the extra cap space, and draft pick).

The 2026.
I don't think we'd get that thou... I think the pick will convey for 2025. I mean... the devils had complete dog#### goaltending this year and finished 10th. Next year they'll have Markstrom, their best players are in their early to mid-twenties and getting better, and Dougie should be able to play more tehn 20 games. Even if Markstrom follows up this very good year with a poor one I see them finishing outside the bottom 10. Probably somewhere in the late teens early twenties.

"If New Jersey has a top-10 selection next year, Calgary would receive its first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft."

happy with that;
We are currently approaching ~ 10% in the McKenna sweepstakes without a game being played, and it's not even required that Calgary is the bad team.

10th overall would have been great, but I actually like the stacking of the 1sts.
two in 24 (CGY and VAN)
two in 25 (CGY and NJ)
two in 26 (CGY and VGK)
perfect for a rebuild, especially when your own pick is going to be very high. Flames should firmly enter the Hagens/McKenna sweepstakes now, which is exactly what this franchise needs.

A decent deal
A first for a goalie that was signed as a free agent.
Keep collecting 1sts.
And need to use cap space to acquire most picks in round 1-2

I've read this whole thread and haven't seen a single post suggesting this isn't a rebuild team.
It's like you need to make up positions just to have someone to argue with and keep posting.
Who are these people you keep talking about???
