What did they name the remains?
And did the players change?
So many questions!

This story from the Athletic says that all six names they submitted (Yeti, Blizzard, Outlaws, Mammoth, Venom and HC) were denied for one reason or another: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/608...me-trademarks/
Quote:
Copyrights on all six names have recently been refused by the United States Patent and Trademark in non-final rulings. Utah has three months from the dates of the refusals to address various concerns and move forward with the trademark process. The Mammoth refusal came in November and the rest in January.
The team believes enough time remains for it to work through the red tape and decide on a permanent identity before it begins Year 2.
|
It also say that the Outlaws and Mammoth submissions were rejected due to clerical errors with the applications and not because of conflicts.
Also, other names that were considered do not have conflicts...
Quote:
It’s worth noting that there were no conflicts found with a number of potential names not included among the finalists previously identified by the Utah organization, including Canyons, Blast, Fury, Squall, Swarm, Ice and Caribou.

Circle back and go with Swarm then. Natural for the Beehive State.

Caribou? There aren't Caribou within a 1000 miles of SLC.

That's a hell of a lot closer than the nearest Yeti.

Unlike all those penguins that are native to western Pennsylvania.

In keeping with the Himalayan theme, how about another beast native to that part of the world?
The goal song could be "Yakity Sax."

It shouldnt be hard. We could potentially even re-purpose something.
Granted...a salt shaker is an unusual shape. Well we'll fight that battle when we come to it.
All I ask is intellectual property residuals and...if the Salt Lake Shakers make the playoffs before the Calgary Flames...they must cede us their playoff berth. One time only.
I dont think thats too much to ask
|
We've already done all the hard work. Just take it and dont forget our Royalties.
Also...within our rider is included a clause that Utah is going to have a take a few dives at our discretion and....also, cause damage upon our enemies upon request.
All standard contractual boilerplate stuff.

According to Smith Entertainment Group (SEG), headed by owners Ryan and Ashley Smith, this is a one-of-a-kind scenario where fans are a part of the final process of naming a franchise.

Really funny that the Yeti company was just completely unwilling to work with them. New state, same franchise.
Works out, though ... "Utah Yeti" would've been a truly terrible name.
