This team has had a bajillion coaches in a short period of time. From rookie coaches, retreads and future HHOF coaches... I haven't done the math but do Flames coaches last longer than two seasons on average?
Don't know about Calgary exactly, average NHL coach tenure is 2.4 years.

Do any teams' head coaches in the NHL last more than two seasons on average?
Darryl lasted 2.75 seasons. I would guess the majority of the league turned their coach over during that period.
Bull Case: Great team underperformed due to toxic environment created by a dinosaur coach. And a player's coach will get the best out of this team. The vezina caliber goalie returns to form, the team finds chemistry under a a more positive enviornment, the two franchise forwards have great seasons, and three special rookies on entry-level deals take the team over the top.
Bear Case: The inmates are now running the asylum. And not just any inmates. Two boat anchors who have done nothing to earn the respect of the organization.
In the bear case, the franchise is a clusterpuck. Tre bridged Tkachuk to keep 10-point per season frolik. Then Tkachuk takes advantage of the situation and Tre makes the worst trade in a generation. Then Tre signs two boat anchors to long-term contracts. And then Tre rides off into the sunset when its clear how ####ed the franchise is. Meanwhile, Sutter has to deal with 2 Prima donnas and then Tre's friend fires Sutter rather than address the boat anchor problem because no other team is willing to take on these boat-anchor contracts and it's untenable to buy them out.
Your arguments might -- might -- make more sense if you avoided using specifically emotional terms like "boat anchors" and "prima donnas". You have, at this point in time, no evidence that this is so, although in 5 or 8 years it may prove to be so. It may also prove NOT to be so.
He did make deals with a number of people whose cost, at this point, is debatable based on results. Be factual, and your arguments have more weight.

I would hire Brunette as coach and bring up Love as an assistant coach as I think that is the next best step for him career wise instead of being thrown right into the Calgary pressure cooker.

While I agree this is the right move going forward it is still bittersweet for me. What he said about "unfinished business" when he came back were more than just words IMO. Just didn't work out the way we'd all hoped.
I don’t disagree. Lewis played a role well, he’s a pro. I don’t tune into watch Lewis. I like watching the Duehrs. Simply the fact that there is a window of opportunity for younger players to succeed in a role that suits their skill set provides a road map for other players in the system.
Agreed - but even the Duehrs, Phillips, Wolfs need someone to guide them on the ice and on the bench...and it's not always gonna be the coach(es) in-game as they may have other responsibilities at the time.

3 full seasons seems to be the most common. Hartley was the first to get 4 seasons since Bob Johnson.
I don't know if that's particularly uncommon for a coach without a great winning record. Darryl was hired in March 2021 and was the 12th longest-tenured coach in the NHL prior to today.
There are only 3 who have been on the job longer than 5 years, and they all have Stanley Cups.

And are you prepared to lose some of our best players as UFA’s at the end of the year?
I wasn't aware that cap wouldn't fit. It has to be really close with Vladar out for a less expensive Wolf. Also, Stecher is nice and Stone is faithful, but both are optional with a player like Gilbert.
I'd also hope that players like Lindholm would choose to stick around now that Sutter is gone. A lot can happen in the off season and I'd bet that there is a renewed hope amongst the team right now. Maybe Lindholm wanted to play with his best friend, but just hated coming to work with a boss like Sutter. I think Backlund re-signs with the Flames if the team is playing great hockey.
If anyone shows no interest in re-signing with the Flames, trade them and open up a spot for some youth.
I'm sure this team would "fit" underneath the cap with some creative maneuvering and obvious cap circumvention that the other teams in the NHL are never guilty of.
