And the colour. You want to get elected in Calgary? Purple is the way to go.

The B.C. Liberals are not affiliated with the federal Liberal party and have described themselves as a "made-in-B.C. free enterprise coalition.''

Liberal Trevor Halford, who represents the Surrey-White Rock riding in the legislature, said around 75 per cent of delegates voted in favour of the name-change process

The party said it will immediately begin a wider consultation process over the coming months before holding a vote of the entire party membership before the end of the year.
I bet they go with the BCUCP.

I feel like the NDP could do a top 30 UPC countdown for an election cycle. Hold a press conference everyday. "This is our daily reminder of the stupid, irresponsible, anti-conservative, anti-social-welfare, and hypocritical things the UPC has delivered to Alberta

Fighting with pandemic Doctors
Mining the Rockies
The Energy War Room
$1.5B pipeline
Lost Covid $
Sky Palace Parties
MLA Christmas vacation
The not a passport, vaccine passport
Charge the Hikers and Skiers, not the ATVers
Corporate Tax Cuts
Open for Summer
Abandoning control of the carbon tax to F'in Trudeau.
Tacit support of boarder blockages.
education from Alabama

I'm not sure what I'm missing, but I'm sure you could easily get to 30 80-20 issues they fell on the wrong side of, and if not in the last few days you could preview the stupidity that could be and Ablerta pension plan or police force.

This election should be easy for the NDP, all they need to do is brand the UPC as the party that only gets the things you never wanted done.

^ I think focusing on the UCP is a tempting, but losing strategy.

Show us a positive vision for the province, a real plan to deal with inflation and reinvestment in healthcare, education, parks and cities -- then contrast that with another four years of UCP financial blunders, social conservatism and political theatre.

It went to the UCP and their crony friends, where else would it “disappear” to?

It won't change anyone's mind. UCP supporters will point towards those things costing money. Even though we're clearly watching a party that is terrible at dealing with finances, it won't matter.

I don't get it. That's all it's going to take?
Suddenly all of the anti-NDPers are going to vote for the same people, same leader, same policies, same history simply because they change their colour, name and website url?

I mean, I hope they do but come on.....

Of only we had a finance Minister with credentials in accounting, this egregious error would have been prevented...

Don't forget that Nixon was Environment Minister before being moved to Finance. Under his watch, we sold off a significant number of provincial parks, and then aggressively tried to mine what was left. No one asked for any of that, and there was no consultation. He was there for the money grab. Now he has been moved to Finance to oversee the ####storm that Travis Toews left behind. He is there solely because as a psychopath he is uneffected by the negative energy being hurled his way. $5.3 Billion disappeared, and he is there for the cover-up. It's why he exists.

NDP will never win Alberta with a positive campaign. They need hate votes against the UPC to have a chance, (or a divided opponent). Too many Albertans have a libertarian bent to them that they confuse for conservatism, which the conservatives are happy to appeal to by throwing there values in the garbage. For a moderately conservative party like the Alberta NDP that carries a socialist name, they need to make a chunk of those people hate the other guys, and since they are relaying on the Motley name for political legitimacy they can't exactly bait and switch people with the name, that would just wreak off inauthenticity.

Also at risk of sounding nihilist, what the hell is a provincial government supposed to do about global supply side inflation?

It's a shame political debates get dragged down into emotional tribalism. We all do it though. Probably, it's best to realize two main motivators to get into politics are money and power. It's a ####ty job. Why would anyone else do it?

It seems some are at least somewhat motivated by making things better, but handcuffed by the mechanisms to get into power (turning our emotions and tribal instincts into votes). South Park had it right. We're usually choosing between a ###### and a turd sandwich. On the rare occasion those more motivated by making things better emerge, and we get lucky. Largely, they all suck, and we need to hold our nose and pick the least sucky.

“Here we go,” said Ms. Notley, describing how the process was supposed to work according to the 400 pages of emails and briefing documents FOIPed by the NDP. “An Alberta patient and their Alberta surgeon do the prep work in Alberta. Then they travel together and stay in B.C. in order to get the actual surgery completed. And then they travel back to Alberta together afterwards for the post-surgical care.”

Needless to say, this adds costs for no apparent reason and puts patients at additional risk. AHS didn’t like it, and neither did the doctors. “The whole plan was utterly ridiculous,” Ms. Notley told the news conference. “But the UCP insisted.”
Quote:
Other emails from Dr. Viner showed “this is controversial and not well supported by clinicians.”

“Feedback on doing surgery at an out-of-province chartered surgical facility was universally negative,” he said of a town hall with clinical department heads and other senior managers.

Baffling.
A lot of voters cast their ballot strictly on the basis of personal financial impacts, including taxes. 90 per cent of the stuff we post about in this thread is irrelevant to them.

There are a lot easier ways to make money than being a politician. The draw is influence and status.
