Taylor hall has now become the legit superstar the Oilers were hoping they drafted.
It makes me so happy.

On Hamilton on the 1st PP: I will say that he did start last year on the #1PP unit and they were 31st in the league until they moved him off and settled on the Gaudreau-Brodie-Versteeg umbrella. So I can sort of understand them wanting to find a combo like that again.
Plus Backlund, Tkachuk, and Hamilton had great chemistry on the 2nd unit and having 2 units that both worked was a big part of our PP success.

He looked terrible at the start but has bounced back since although not many dangerous chances

Gillies has had an easy night against an offensively inept team. Which is fine, the team should keep it that way.

You misremember. That was Dennis Wideman.

I really like Gillies. I think his size and athletic ability will translate to the NHL quite well. I still think he’s our starter after Mike Smith, and will then be challenged by Tyler Parsons.
|
I agree, he has all the tools, just need to work on the mental side of things. That will come with playing more games. With going the college route and the year lost to the hip injury, he hasn't played enough hockey. Yet.

Pretty soon we're going to need a fun thread where we build the best rosters possible consisting of active ex-Oilers they foolishly dumped.
The Oiler castoffs who have flourished after escaping that sinkhole are becoming way too many to count. That organization ruins players like no other team ever.

Hamilton was out with Gaudreau, Monahan, Brouwer, and Giordano every PP for the 1st 5 games of 2016-17 (probably more, but that's as far as I looked). Hamilton on the 1st PP unit was plan A last year and it didn't work.

Meanwhile Nashville crushed the Sharks even worse than we did last night. 7-1 final.

Petry's a decent player. Cogliano's a great second/third liner. Gagner is a serviceable 3rd liner.

If only there was a common denominator on that power play and this year's crappy PP until the last couple of weeks...

Sometimes things work for awhile, and then they go cold. Sometimes a coach tweaks it and finds a new combo that clicks. And eventually needs to refine that one because of coldness or injury. It's not a math formula. It's a combination with many permutations. The skilled coaches find them quickly. The strugglers take 50 games to find them. Congrats on figuring it out tonight, GG.
