Looking at the Flames inability to score, it might be worth considering a big name like Landeskog, even if that cost is high, such as a 1st + Kylington + Klimchuck. It's a serious mortgage, but it would drastically improve their depth:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Versteeg
Landeskog - Bennett - Brouwer
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik

That's probably the best LW depth in the league. It would also help Bennett's game by having at least one real talent on his line.

You wouldn't have to add if Brodie were the centerpiece (he is worth at least as much as Landeskog, and likely more), but your point still stands.

What it would take, in order to obtain Landeskog, is not worth what he would bring to the team. With Gaudreau and Tkachuk, Landeskog would be a 3rd line LW. And no team can afford a luxury like that, it would mean a huge hole elsewhere in the lineup.

Plus, on top of the cost, it would also mean losing Ferland or Brouwer in the expansion draft.

Terrible asset management.

If you are acquiring Landeskog it's not to play Gaudreau/Landy/Tkachuk all on LW. 100% one is moved to the RW. Probably Tkachuk as he has proven he can create lots of offence on the right side.

Those guys are worse than Eklund but this seems like a trade that could work for both sides. I don't see why the Pens get rid of Rust though. He's cheap and he was good in the playoffs last year if I'm remembering properly.

Pittsburgh's only hope for not losing Murray to expansion is if they can work out a deal with Vegas to give the Knights a draft pick if they don't take him.

The Pens will buy out Fleury. The Pens could give a first to the Knights but that is not enough to by pass Murray.
