If I had a NHL team, I'd name them the Sesame Street Maulers.

So you think it's a good name, then? Canadiens were named 107 years ago.

That whole reveal still somehow ended up being less cringe inducing than watching the Flames special teams.

I like the logos, and the name is ok. It's Not Unusual for people to say Vegas, instead of Las Vegas.
Robert Urich played Dan Tanna on Vega$.
Las Vegas literally means "The Meadows". Dropping the definite article is not a big deal. We often drop "The" when talking about bands.

Seriously? They screwed up playing a video. It wasn't that embarrassing. No one will care in a week.

Right. That's kind of my point. The history of the franchise gives it gravitas, but out of context, a name like the Canadiens, Canucks, Rangers, etc. sounds rather silly. Every brand new team name sounds stupid at first, and I still think the Mighty Ducks was a horrible embarrassment to the league, much more so than this.
Knights (which is what they will be known as most of the time) is a perfectly acceptable name. Adding Golden was probably necessary due to conflicts with the London Knights. The name and color scheme are fairly unique, which the league could use more of.
Golden Knights is not better or worse than any other team name in the league.

Except, "Canadiens" is just an unofficial team nickname...The club's official name is le Club de hockey Canadien.

Agree that people are making too big of a deal about dropping the Las.
It's okay because it's often referred to as just "Vegas", where as places like New York and Los Angeles are never referred to as just "York" or "Angeles".
What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

No, you don't see the Montreal "club de hockey Canadien" in the standings, you see Canadiens. It's more of an official name, and the unofficial nickname would be The Habs. It doesn't change my point.

And as far as lame team nicknames...I still HATE the NFL team that evolved from the corporately sponsored ACME Meat Packing Company!

Golden Knights is still awful. Take off the Golden and it's fine. Yes, I know there are trademarks, etc.

Don't really like the name, will just call them the Knights like everyone else. But as a Nevada resident, I can say that everyone I know in LV is excited to have a major pro franchise.

In the Arena when they go down 1-0 they need to play the "It's just a flesh wound!" clip on the big screen.
(It's not as funny once they're down 2-0 or more.)

The Blue Jackets and the Wild sounded pretty stupid when they were first revealed too, but once you get used to it, it's no better or worse than any other team name in the NHL.
I'm pretty sure the Maple Leafs, the Canucks, and the Canadiens sounded pretty lame when they were first revealed too.

The name is fine. You'll get over it after one week of hockey just like "Wild", "Lightning", "Avalanche". At least you can be a Golden Knight. You can't be a "Wild". You know that in a few years they'll drop the "Golden" part just like the Ducks dropped the "Mighty". Just need to figure out the London Knights issue. Fans are going to chant "Go Knights Go" and will call them the "Knights" too.
And the logo is sick. I'd say it's easily one of the best in the league already.
|
Exactly. You can't be a Flames either but I don't think we have an issue with our name do we?

Imagine if a team joined the league and for the first time selected the name "Penguins".
People would go nuts criticizing that choice. Now its iconic.
I like the name, I like the dropping of "Las", and I love the logo.
