I heard the Clayton Stoner story on the radio today; not sure how I didn't hear about it when it broke or if I did I don't remember.

Anyway, this story, at least as I heard it on the CBC radio news, is very different in that Clayton's hunt could have been legal however there is arguments over his residency status in the Province.

Not that I agree with trophy hunting either way, but I don't think the two incidents are comparable.

He's been charged.

Quote:
Clayton Stoner has been charged with illegally shooting a grizzly bear in British Columbia. He is to appear in court in Vancouver on Oct. 9, the day before the Ducks open the season and three days before his team plays the Vancouver Canucks in Anaheim.
He is accused of two counts of knowingly making a false statement to obtain a hunting license. Court documents show the statements were made in his hometown of Port McNeill in May 2013, when he played for the Minnesota Wild.
Stoner faces separate counts of hunting out of season, hunting without a license and unlawfully possessing dead wildlife related to the shooting of a bear near Bella Bella.

Should we call the bear Stanley and pretend he was loved by locals even though most people haven't heard of him?

Joking aside, wtf Stoner. I'm fine with hunting but do it legally ffs

I remember the hubbub around Booth's hunting pictures, but I don't remember hearing anything about Stoner.

Booth's hunting was absolutely legal wasn't it?

According to the article his name was Cheeky and he seems to have been cared about.

Quote:
The bear, which local residents had named Cheeky, was killed in an area known as the Great Bear Rainforest.
Jess Housty, a tribal councillor with the Heiltsuk Nation based in Bella Bella, said the charges against Stoner are "symbolically important.
"The message that I'm hearing from a lot people is justice is finally being served," she said, acknowledging Stoner has not been convicted. "The fact is, this is justice for one bear and not justice for all bears."
