Well that 2016 1st has a chance to be McDavid and McDavid >>>> Johansen.
Don't even get me started about offering up Ser Johnny Hockey.

That 2016 1st does not have a chance to be McDavid. That's 2015. The 2016 pick is more likely when we won't have a Top 5 pick.
As for Ser Johnny Hockey, I would wayyy rather have Johansen over Gaudreau.

My apologies but the point still stands. Way rather have some explain why and provide value and insight than not.

no way Columbus moves their best player for a pick two years out (which helps the team 4 years from now), unless the other assets are the primary pieces (and are really, really good ones)

Sure, why are we trading our best prospect and a possible top 10-15 pick (you never know how good/bad we'll do in 2016) for a center, one position that is not a problem for the Flames? I like Johanssen, but not at the expense of Johnny.

Ahh right, my bad I totally misread that.
I still disagree though, the 2016 will be a top 5 pick and JG has top line talent.
Bad trade is bad.

Mine are at least helping with the organizational needs for the Flames. I'd like to know what proposals you're thinking of.

Personally, I think outside of Flames fans, every other fan will say they would rather have Johansen over Gaudreau.
Gaudreau is good but he still has a lot of question marks sorrounding him and I would rather have Johansen who has already played a few seasons in the NHL and is coming of a 30 goal season and 63 points. He is 6'3 220 Pounds.
Keep in mind we might center depth but you can never have enough of it. Sam Bennett can easily be moved to the wing down the road.
As for the 1st round pick, you need to give up value to get value and I think the Flames will be picking in the 10-15 range in 2016. Maybe I am just a huge fan of Johansen because he is big, proven and young.

CAR was looking at budget-related options (trade or buyout) to clear goalie Cam Ward's salary but now appears Ward will be remaining in CAR.

You make it sound like the Flames are contending for the cup with your organizational needs. The Flames are still at least 2 solid seasons away from making an impact in the NHL playoffs. Two years is a long time and if you compare rosters from 2012 to now, you will see a lot of changes. Positional needs is the last thing a rebuilding team should be worried about this early into the process.
Two years ago we didn't have any centers and now we do. The organizational need should be to acquire as many players as they can with value and who will help contribute for a long time (which Johansen will do being only 21 years old)
Oh, and if it makes you feel better, Johansen shoots right while Gaudreau shoots left. With your logic, the Flames should make the trade because we are stuffed with players who shoot left.

I guess we'll agree to disagree. I too like Johanssen's game, and he'd no doubt be the 1st line center on our team, 6'3, 220 lbs and a right handed shot would definitely meet the Flames' needs. But like I said, not at the expense of Johnny G.
If you wanted me to make a counter proposal, I'd give the Jackets Backlund + Sven + a 2015 2nd (and maybe another plus). Not sure the Jackets would do it, but they already have having enough trouble signing Johanssen a decent contract. I'd easily give him a 6 x 6 on the Flames.

You're going to have to give up a 1st + for Johansen plain and simple.

I wonder if there is interest in Mason Raymond this time with the change in management.
28 years old, lots of speed. Could do it on a 1-2 year deal at 1-2 per.

I would not trade JG straight up for Johanssen. With his skill and hockey sense I truly believe JG will be one of the top 5 players in the NHL in 3-5 years time. Big pass.

Pretty sure they'd do it for a B+ prospect in Sven , an NHL ready player in Backlund 2nd/3rd line C who is perfectly capable of replacing Johanssen's minutes, and arguably a high 2nd round pick in 2015.
