Nexus 5 or Galaxy S5?

Between those two I would say the Nexus 5 easily due to cost savings if you buy it outright and get BYOD savings somewhere.
The New HTC One would be a good option since I personally still feel that was the best phone in 2013, and it doesn't look like the S5 improved on enough to overtake the next HTC iteration IMO.

I was able to wrangle one of these for free from Rogers, hoping it shows up today or tomorrow. Anyways, anyone have first hand knowledge of a case with a belt clip?

Wow...definitely a Nexus guy now...lol. The boss got me a Nexus 5 for work (replacing the old crappy iPhone 3GS that he first gave to me to use) and I picked up a Nexus 7 on the weekend from London Drugs for home use. I also have a Nexus 5 for personal use. At least I know they will all be updated with the latest Android versions. Definitely a happy Nexus user here.

Sooooooo anyone know how much the screen replacement is? I looked on Kijiji but I didn't see pricing.
Dropped my N5 the other day and it shattered.

LCD and digitizer usually cost ~$100-$110 not including the labour to replace it. I think about $180 labour in. You could probably look on iFixit to get it done yourself. I've done one for a Galaxy Nexus but that was considerably easier to take apart than the N5.

The alternative is you can buy just the glass for around ~15. Did you wreak the glass or the glass and LCD? If only the glass you could get it replaced for cheaper yourself if you have a heat gun, experience using it and a load of patience. Don't bother if you have no experience as you'll likely end up just shattering the glass as you'll either pry too hard the first time or you won't heat the LCD evenly and the glass will snap and further damage your LCD. There are some shops out of town that'll do this for about ~$60-70 and I've gotten an Ipad air and SGS2 glass fixed up from them before, but I don't know any place local that'll do it (my places were in TO and Hong Kong).

For several months now we’ve been hearing rumors that Google’s new Android Silver program was going to replace the Nexus line of devices. This, of course, caused some uproar among the stock Android faithful. David Burke, head of Android engineering and the Nexus program at Google, spoke out in an interview today to put those rumors to rest. Speaking to Read Write, Burke said that people are simply getting excited about the concept of something new (Android Silver) and forgetting about Google’s reasons for the Nexus line in the first place.

Dropped my 2 week old Nexus 5 and the screen shattered. Not impressed at all.
The Nexus S that I replaced had been dropped ~1000 times, dropped in the toilet, dropped in a camp fire, and it still worked fine.
Do not buy a Nexus 5.

I've had the N5 for a few weeks now and am very happy with it.
I'm even getting great battery life (although I hear for some reason some people have issues).
I would recommend it.

I have a Nexus 5 for work and one for personal use and have no issues with it I would highly recommend buying one. Best way to avoid an issue is not to drop it.

My GF spilled a small amount of water on my N5, which still seems to have fried something (flashing LED of death). I may be in the market for one with a shattered screen for parts, or possibly just the battery. Haven't tried all the solutions from the web yet, but if you are selling, I may be interested.

Yeah, once you drop any device all bets are off. All I heard with the Nexus 4 was how fragile it was, and I believe it with the glass back. I dropped it lord knows how many times and the thing never broke. It's luck of the draw and usually how it lands.

Broke the glass on my nexus 4 today, now the touch screen doesn't work. Should I look at repairing or simply buying a new phone? What makes the most sense at this point considering the age of the nexus 4?

I was on the fence about a case as I find it often ruins the whole aesthetic of the device I purchased, but my Nexus 4 shattered after a 5-foot drop onto a hard tile floor. I saw a clear jewel bumper case at the Crossiron Rogers store that will still show off the new phone's exquisite redness. It matches my car. And most of my jerseys.

Was just in the exact same position as you; the quotes I got for a repair were consistently pushing 200 bucks. With shipping, a 16 GB one is $383, and it will show up in five business days. I just got a new phone, but I'm barely a grown up, without other humans who depend on me.

I got a quote for 90 bucks. I'm still deciding if I should do that or buy a Nexus 5. Is it worth spending money on a 4 when it is an older phone and one that will probably require replacing in a year or so anyways. Damn you planned obsolescence.
