If Seguin is in play you do whatever it takes to get him. He is one of those players that can be the cornerstone that you build around. He is that future franchise player that the Flames do not have and won't get through the draft.
I know lots of guys around here love the idea of having 3 first rounders and seem to think #6 will be a game changer. You all saw the list of 6th overall picks, yes there are a few good ones in there, but for the most part they are all 3rd liners or busts.
Put down the Xbox controllers, give your head a shake, and hope to hell Flames get Seguin no matter the cost!

They may not all turn out but I think in a deep year it is certainly more likely they do. There was a much lower bust % in 2003 in the first round vs your average year and I think this year will be similar.

Still the teams who did well in that draft like Philly, Nashville, and Anaheim either stockpiled picks like Nashville, or went after guys like Anaheim and Philly did by moving up to draft Richards and Perry. Although it does seem to me that teams who moved down on draft day for more picks ended up losing out. Florida, Tampa, Edmonton really didn't do so well that day. So perhaps the lesson is stockpile pre draft, not by moving back on draft day.

Seguin is in play because he can't oust the 2 2nd rounders for a top 6 C job

Because that list of#6s had some busts?
Do I really have to list all the great players drafted 6 and later?

Okay, for comparison's sake:
In 2003 (last time draft was this strong) the #6 overall pick was Milan Michalek.
Would you rather have Michalek, or Seguin?

@HackWithHaggs - 'Peter Chiarelli received "deluge" of calls on Seguin once it was public they were listening to offers. Tapered off when Horton departed'

I agree (especially 2003 draft) but why gamble if you potentially have the opportunity on a sure thing? Especially considering our significant cap space and the fact that we still need to ice an NHL caliber team.

Guys, the whole 'who went at #6 argument' is a fallacy. Lots of franchise players went after Michalek

5 years of ELCs lost is one reason
concerns of chronic hip problems and some early evidence that he may be becoming a perimeter player is another
