Certainly not a retool, as the flames would we quite poor for the next few years as those draft picks would take some time to become productive players.

It would be the very essence of a kick start rebuild.

It’s a rebuild no matter what they do this draft - they have 12 UFAs over the next two years, plus Marky.

They’re not gonna keep all of them. They might keep four - Kuzmenko, Sharangovich, Backlund, Andersson. And I doubt they’ll do that.

Hutson has been dominant offensively at every level, and is a better player than his brother. Size is an issue, and there’s only a few defensemen in the league who are 5’10”. I myself am not scared by that, but he has some issues in his own zone.

If we have a late round pick and take a flyer and need a goalie. Jackson Unger. Local Blackfoot goalie who has only ever just won all the time. He’s putting on A show at the memorial cup now which he always does in big games. December birthday that always sets things back. He was probably a better player than goalie before he chose goalie.

Weirdly goalie like calm demeanor. Like a stranger could punch his girlfriend in the face and his heart rate wouldn’t go up. But he’s a goalie so maybe could get him for free later.

His offensive numbers in league play were stifled this year, but he’s been dynamite in international play. He’s much better than his numbers- he’s a 90-point CHL player IMO.

Using this as a rough guide to how the draft might play out, the Flames with the #9, #28, #64, #74 and #84, would be drafting from tiers 4/5, 9/10, 13/14, 15/16, and 17/18.

Obviously teams are going to have their own unique view on tiers, but using yours just for fun, I would select the following players:

9 - Iginla
28 - Mews
64 - Jecho
74 - Muggli
84 - Koivu
