Is that still the rule with modern mobos that can backup the bios? I don’t update unless there’s a tangible benefit (like preventing the CPU from frying itself) but I think it’s far safer now.
Either way I use the flashing tool in the bios.
Yes, that's still the golden rule . Updating it if there is as you mentioned , is going to fix a known issue then that would fall under that rule. Updating the bios for no reason other than just to update could introduce problems just like Updating graphic drivers.
Example: Asrock boards latest bios for ruining amd chips but earlier bios ave not been doing so. Also an example of Updating for no reason is the drivers for Nvidia cards for 4000s series and earlier. The drivers since the 5000 series launch are causing black screens so people with older cards need to roll back to the December 20th update at least.
A three-hour video? Say what you will about Steve, but the man is thorough. I know people in other hobbies are pissed off too. The biggest producers in the retro handheld market have stopped shipping to the U.S. I kinda wish they'd do the same for Canada so I could stop buying the stupid things.
Many thanks to DownInFlames for helping me get an Astral 5090. Really appreciate it though maybe not the wallet. I should still have my "pre-order" from ME that is waiting for fulfillment in the meantime, will pass it along for whomever is up next.
ROPS seem to be all there. So far so good. But holy heck a full sized case is no guarantee of these cards fitting.
My spot at ME came up for a 5090 TUF OC.
DownInFlames is good but if anybody is interested please let me know and you should be able to swap in for it. Please PM ASAP, I just need to let them know.
EDIT: Okay, I don't think they'll hold it for me past this evening. I'll let them know to pass on it, I'm sure it'll hit the next person on their list.
Definitely not the most reasonable financial thing to get lol!

Nvidia reportedly raises GPU prices by 10-15% as manufacturing costs surge — tariffs and TSMC price hikes filter down to retailers
According to the publication's supply chain sources, price hikes have been exacerbated by the shift of Blackwell chip production to TSMC's US plant, which has driven a significant rise in the price of production, materials, and logistics.

Yeah, I'm just going to roll with my Intel card at least until GTA VI comes out on PC, which gives me plenty of time. 16GB of VRAM is plenty for most games out there at the moment.
There are a also whole bunch of "older" games that I've never gotten around to playing (currently making my way through AC: Valhalla), so I'm more than happy to dick around with those and not reward these greedy ####s.

That's a good plan. My poor impulse control has me wanting a new GPU (I have bought two and returned one in the last month or so) but I'm fine with what I have. I mostly play indie games and "AA" games like Clair Obscur:E33.
By the time GTA 6 comes out, and I just heard that another delay is likely, hopefully AMD has something worthy of upgrading too.

O god... save your time IMO Valhalla is the only game in the series I stopped have way through playing . I owned every Ac Game ever made but that was not a AC game. Should habe just called it Vikings .
I really really do not like that game even tho I had 80 plus hours . Currently 240 hrs into Ac shadows . What a much better game for the series.

221 hours for me. I finished the main story a while ago but I'm trying to do everything else.
The only thing I can't say I like is my interest level in doing the Dawn of Ragnarök DLC is pretty low. I would rather it just be more historic content.

Far Cry: Vikings would be more accurate.
But Far Cry is also still a guilty pleasure of mine.
I've had it with Nvidia ... I just want my pc to work like it use too. Black screens after black screes ddu after ddu . I can't even get old drivers to work.
Finally said #### it and clean installed windows from scratch. Previously I was resetting it and that did F all too. Latest bios, windows everything.
Just put the oldest build of windows and loaded it, going to try the December studio driver vs gameplay and see it that works.
