Ah shaddup...it's a stupid country.
If I could just up and leave and move south, don't you think I would. 43 years of cold and snow...sick of it.

When it gets this cold the same thought always runs through my head, how did the natives survive back in the day when it was like this? You'd have to be a tough S.O.B.

i think originally it had to be tough, especially for those in Northern Europe during the ice age...prior to migration to North America... But it is one of those things that have help evolved our intelligence...besides animal fur and tepees/igloos are pretty warm places.

The same way they do today, cheap/homemade liquor . In seriousness though, I went out to fill my car with gas tonight, and they 3 minutes I was outside was death.

Dude, I almost got into an accident at that intersection on saturday. Going westbound on McIvor and trying to turn north onto 52nd is a death trap. I wasn't even going fast and I have winter tires on my car but forget about stopping. I slid right onto 52nd st blaring my horn. Thank god some the other vechicle heard my horn and slowed down. Could of been alot worse if I didn't lay on the horn when I wasn't able to stop.

EPIC corner haha.... not really funny, but kinda funny.
It appears to finally be better this morning. But yes the last few days it's was hell. First time I took it the other day I definitely did a massive sideways drift onto 52nd. Winter tires, big SUV, pumping brakes and it still had zero control.

Sometimes i wonder the same thing. I plan to move to Vancouver within 5 years though. Not California, but I'll take some depressing rain than the snow....

After spending some time in Vancouver I doubt you'll ever refer to it as some rain ever again.
I still remember a phone conversation with my wife (then girlfriend) who was living in Vancouver at the time.
Her: You know when it rains so much that you pant legs get wet up to your knee?
Me: No
Her: There's so much rain that when you walk around your pants get soaked between the bottom and the knee.
Me: You mean to tell me that it rains so much in vancouver that the rain defies all reason and goes up?
Her: More or less, ya.
Now what she was getting at is that the ground is so saturated that whatever clothing touches the ground just soaks up water until it reaches your knee. Regardless ... that's a hell of a lot of water.
I know the cold and wind sucks, but at least we get reprieve every few weeks. Plus we can use the snow to our advantage if winter sports are your thing.

Is it just me or does it seem that Deerfoot has more icy patches than usual?

Have to echo the 52nd @ Mcivor.
There's nearly a crash every time i drive through it. The problem now is people going to the lights and then turning right instead of using the icy exit lane. What happens now is people in the turning lane aren't expecting people to turn right at the lights and slam on their breaks and can't stop.

Another bad part is turning East onto McIvor from 52nd south. That turning lane is so slicked up and icy it's nearly impossible to get any traction after stopping at the light.

I have to agree I love Vancouver and lived there for a few years would happily live there again if not for the rain.
The rain just sucks your soul it is endless. At least the sun is shining here and it can recharge your mental battery.
I remember Jan 1994 there was a total of 7 hours of sunshine the whole month. Now that is not a consecutive 7 hours, that is spaced out over a month. If you work indoors you would probably miss it. Now imagine never seeing the sun for a month. It truly bums you right out.
Many people suffer from SAD in that town.
