In the long run, this could be a very, very beneficial thing for RIM. Sometimes you need a fire to achieve new growth, it works for forests and for software.

- The average 14 year old couldn't care less about how the phone works. They just want to be cool.
- The average 14 year old guy will do anything to get laid.
- The iPhone 4 makes you cool.
- Being cool helps you get laid.
Seems like pretty solid logic to me.

I'm sure in a lot of ways the iPhone 4 is much better than the Torch. But in the stuff that I require for work, the Torch is superior. I don't have time to play games and watch movies on my phone (outside of porn clips ). I need to use it to communicate and be more productive and mobile.
I'm looking forward to a better browser with OS 6 thats for sure. Because I am spending more and more time on the web with my BB and currently I am pretty much limited to mobile sites. The bigger screen and 5mp camera will be great for work as well since I take and send a lot of pictures.

I am so bored of my blackberry. Great phone, but lacks the gaming or applications I would like. Maybe because blackberry app work is so atrociously slow and crappy, I can't find any of the good ones.

I think this is the crux of the sentiment that is slowly driving some users away from Blackberrys. People see the advertising bang of the new phones and they think they will use the apps and other features of the iPhone and newer Android phones. Many users will actually use these features but my honest opinion is that more than 50% won't use many more of their phone's features than they did before the switch.
The truth is there are not really that many useful apps out there that have staying power. Everyone I know who has an iPhone, or an Android phone always says they really don't use the apps as much as they thought they would.

The corollary to this is that the good apps, the ones you will really use and will make your mobile device a transformative tool, you will probably pay for, because the developers know they have value. A number of people wonder where I got the great apps on my iPhone and iPad from, and it never occurs to them that I’ve got a software budget that I put to (overly) good use.

Very true. Most people don't want to dump $100 or more dollars into apps to get the most out of their device. Others still probably don't realize the possibilities that are out there or how they could change their phone experience.

If your BB can do it, get opera. I use the default browser a lot, but when I need a full page, my Opera is set to load non-mobile versions of everything. I got myself a Storm 2 in December, and it's been a double edged sword.
1. I'm one of the rare "likes the surepress" crew.
2. Email. Quickest, easiest, least battery demanding. Even if I make a switch, that I will miss.
3. BBM. It definitely has its use, and it is indeed quick. My phone is good, but if someone's on a provider with dodgy texting (such as my texting was with a certain carrier to be named after the following semi-colon; Bell)
4. Reliability. While people curse the Storm (1 and 2) for freezing, etc., I've had no problems, neither does a friend who has the 2 as well. I've heard others refer to it as the "Ice-Storm", so...yeah. Be careful I guess.
Downfalls:
So I have a device that's what, under a year old? But they couldn't get the new OS on it? Oi. Disappointing.
As such, I will not get the new quick browser. As a popular video (it's in this thread I think) showed, even the new torch WITH said new browser is slower than the iPhone and Android one. While it's not MUCH slower, mine is a good bit slower itself. Gotta like the compression of data though, so you don't have to get as heavy a plan.
Media Player. Is there some sort of aftermarket one that can allow the seams in tracks to flow better? Listening to Dark Side of the Moon or track 9 onwards from Abbey Road, the break is disruptive.
So really, to me, the Torch is my phone with a physical keyboard, likely some better hardware, and a new OS, that apparently isn't too gigantic improvement from the old one.

As a BB user, and an iPhone user, when people mention blackberry they mention "productivity" quite frequently. However, I find as of late, due to the power of the apps on the iPhone- it's more productive to me then my Berry.
Apps like Omnifocus (task manager GTD type software) have become a necessity to my day-to-day life now. The power of some apps is just -incredible-.

Don’t even get me started on how good Omnifocus is...I have it on 3 Macs, 2 iPhones and an iPad, all perfectly synced.
Unbelievably good app. I don’t know how I could manage without it anymore.
Are there any good GTD apps specifically for the Blackberry? If so, do any of them sync to multiple handhelds and desktops?

I have Opera Mini. It is much better than the default, but far from perfect. Your experience would be different on the Storm2 due to the bigger screen than I have with the Tour.

For me productivity would include a physical keyboard, push email, and BBM. I use the email and BBM frequently for business. I have to pull over when I'm driving and respond to emails and BBM. The faster I can get that accomplished the better.
I type a lot on my BB, from sending email and BBM to taking notes and entering data. For all that I prefer the physical keyboard.
I'm not much of a tech guy so most of the stuff that any of these phones can do is beyond me. For instance, I have no idea what GTD means.

Much, much different.
Gtd ( getting things done). With omni, you create projects, tasks associated with those projects, contexts (ie this task is an errand). Then from there, you can set deadlines, start dates and what not.
It syncs to the cloud on all my devices so my tasks are always updated. Can filter by context, and get nice little checkboxes for your tasks for certain days
I am confident i don't even use omni to it's full power, sclitheroe might!
But for me, it makes me much more efficient and organized. They have a mac, iPhone, and iPad app.

If anyone is looking for anymore free themes, these will work on all BB's that are on at least OS5.0 and are 480 x 360 screen size.
Here is a link to my BlackBerry Theme Blog.

Anyone else having the new version of Blackberry App World asking a password log in all the time?

Which carrier do you use? I was assuming that the new version would be pushed to my phone like the original was. As far as I know I am still using the original.

Bell. It was a minor inconvenience, but it was annoying because it came out of nowhere.
