Im with OldSam and Flamesoholic... We should be ashamed as flames fans. He was a premier defenceman who got run out of town by us. We all profess to being fans of the home team, but when the chips are down, its time to run everyone out of town. Trade Iggy, trade Regehr, blow up the team! Im tired of this. I hope everyone is happy. I know Im not.
Im going to miss you Dion.

A couple years from now, this trade is Phaneuf and Aulie for White.
If the Flames don't go on a run this year or land a UFA, off ice matters aside this is going to look really really bad in retrospect.

I think this is the kind of shake up we needed. Let Phaneuf go and blossom elsewhere, it wasn't happening here. Stajan and Hagman are not that bad at all. They'll fit in nice in the top six. And if you compare numbers, White has had a very similar season to Dion anyways. CGY wins in this deal...

Hagman is really the only decent piece imo. White was probably just thrown into the deal after the Sedins made him look silly over and over last night....please, Brent, play this guy vs the twins.

Honestly I didn't expect the flames to trade Phaneuf, I wanted to keep him and put more dedication into his game and play. Ever since Elisha and 6.5m came into the picture he has been on the decline.
That being said this hasn't been the first year where I have said this. Sad to see him go. Only hope what we get in return realizes the hard work and they turn out to put the effort Wellwood did and sometimes does for the Canucks
As for Dion.. If I was you.. my first words would have been "no the f'n leafs!!!"

It's not just the players back - $6.5 M is off the books. Like the Gilmour trade off-ice issues forced the gm's hand.

You are drunk if you you think calgary wins this deal.
Seriously drunk.
We gave up more and got less than Boston got for an unsigned Phil Kessel. Put that in perspective

Love Ian White, the guy is a player. Adds a rh shot to the D as well, something we've been missing.
Like Hagman, and Stajan should work well with Iggy.
Overall a little disappointed at the return.

I'm surprised Brian Burke doesn't have tears in his eyes from laughing so hard on how he ripped us off in this deal

I am hopeful the rest of the team will get reenergized if indeed Dion was a problem in the dressing room. Lot of underachievers on the team this year beside Gio and Kipper.
The Euros are soft and we lost a hitter in Dion who can skate, pass and shoot. He might not be great defensively but he is skillful. Regehr and Sarich are both slow and not great at PA and PC.
Is Prust to be moved in another deal??

At least for the remainder of the year Calgary wins this trade. In the unlikely event that this wins us a cup im sure everyone will look upon it fondly, even if no franchise cornerstone was acquired and retained.
It makes our team much better IMO, at least in the foreseeable future.

Here is the salary cap breakdown:
....................09/10....10/11....11/12....12/13....13/14...Cap Hit
Hagman...........3.0.......3.0........3.0.......UF A................3.0
Mayers............1.4.......UFA................... ....................1.33
Stajan.............1.75.....UFA................... ....................1.75
White..............0.95.....RFA................... ....................0.85
Total cap hit....6.93......3.0........3.0................... ..............
Sjostrom.........0.75......0.75......UFA.......... .................0.75
Phaneuf..........6.5........7.0.......6.5.......6. 5........5.5......6.5
Total Cap Hit...7.25......7.25.............................. ..............
This year, Calgary gets .33 in cap relief. Next year, calgary gets 4.25 in cap relief.
Guys coming in
Hagman LW (30) from Finland, on pace for 29 goals, 48 points
Stajan C (26) from Ontario, on pace for 60 points
White D (25) from Manitoba, on pace for 48 points
Mayers (35) from Ontario, is a plugger who can't score
Overall, I am disappointed with this deal. I don't like giving up a big time player without getting one back. Phaneuf must have been a problem, and the team simply needed to unload him. The Flames also need help up front, which they got. They also could conceivably have White and Stajan stick around with the Flames for awhile, as they are in that mid-20s range, which means their best years are about to unfold. Hagman's offfense will also help this team.
