No. I don't do much long-distance calling, but when I do it is to people on Aliant (Bell). No charge for the long distance, no charge for the minutes.

The packages each include unlimited WiFi access at all Rogers and Fido hot spots."

I just spoke to a Rogers CSR about the rate plans... She argued they were the same as AT&T in the US. I asked her to explain the difference between a limited data plan and an unlimited one, and how they could be considered 'the same'...
I know these people are just the messenger, but honestly...Don't lie to people.

LOL. My buddy didn't lie. he said straight out those rates suck and he sells rogers devices.
In case anyone was interested, I put in my 2 cents in the herald on saturday lol. My ugly "unshaven messy haired lack of sleep with bags under my eyes" mug is on page 6 as well lol. I picked a great day to take a picture.

I was going to add data for my iPhone, but at these prices it's just not worth it.

There's people saying you don't need to get a data plan with the iPhone. That would make it like an iPod touch with a phone and sms device built in. Beautiful.

There are only two ways Ted is going lower prices:
(1) Strong government regulation to control the monopoly on GSM cell phone service
or
(2) Competition in GSM cell phone service
The only party recommending #1 is the NDP. And what I'm hearing about the spectrum auction is that some of the buyers plan on selling their licenses to Rogers as soon as the auction is over. So #2 doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon.

C-555 does the following: - Prohibits hidden charges
- Simplifies billing
- Provides for mobile "net neutrality"
- Calls for an assessment into possible legal action to prevent "anti-competitive" behaviour in the Canadian wireless industry.
- Calls for an assessment into the effectiveness of the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services.

You won't get an iPhone 3G from Rogers for $199/$299 if you don't commit to a data plan.
In the states you can buy one from AT&T for $599/$699 without a data plan...

They say on their blog that it's probably just DNS propagation delay, not being blocked. They moved hosts.

So, by that chart, the sole difference between what Rogers is charging and what AT&T is charging and what O2 is charging is the length of the contract? The monthly charge is about the same across the board. Sure, you get less (less minutes, less data), but the cost of the base package is the same.

...
Not only is the contract length shorter for AT&T, but you also get MORE voice minutes, UNLIMITED data AND free call display. If actually read the entire chart, you'd see that the final cost difference has the Rogers iPhone costing $1000 dollars more than the AT&T iPhone (because of the extra contract year and extra call display fee), while providing SIGNIFICANTLY less value along the way.
It's also important to note that the Rogers plan used for comparison only has 400MB of data, which is peanuts to an iPhone, and the overage charges could potentially cost hundreds of dollars each month.
