The volume of people that plug apostrophes into any plural word is mildly disturbing. It's become a bit of an english epidemic online. Let's remember that apostrophes indicate possession or omitted letters.
And if the word you're plugging it into for possession purposes ends with an 's', you place is after that 's'.
Just think before you play pin the apostrophe on the donkey.

They need a solid 1B to split starts 50/50 with him. They're leaning on UPL way to much.
In general they're just too young. They need to add some vet pros into the bottom half of the roster.
It also seems like, for all their rebuilding, they don't have any true gamebreaking talent to make up for the lack of depth. Dahlin is a legit #1 but he doesn't impact the game like Q Hughes or Makar can.
Thompson is legit, but he's not Jack Hughes.
The Sabres are missing Eichel type guy big time.
I actually think the Devils are a good juxtaposition for the Sabres. Rebuilt in a similar time frame. But they got the elite talent. They've filled the rest of the roster with steadier vets.
|
Dahlin is absolutely as skilled as Hughes and Makar. If he played anywhere else, with even a little bit of cohesive talent and coaching, people would see this.
If Sabres blow it up, and they should, I'd give up any prospect, including Parekh, to get him.
This is the caution about folks focussing on tanking for a superstar; if those superstars are not surrounded by other players that can help, it doesn't matter how good that player is. Edmonton under the nepotism and Chiarelli years is another example of this.

Adam's is all but gone at this point.

I know the Flames are bad trade partners for the Sabres but I keep trying to think how how we can work with a 3rd party to get the job done.
For example:
Predators? Perhaps the Preds want to acquire futures from the Flames and send a vet to the Sabres? (It would be fairly ironic if the vet was ROR.) You would have to think that this season has been a disaster for the Preds and that they would be looking at how to get the rebuild back on track.
Islanders or Rangers? Both teams are climbing out of the basement of this season but you would have to think that they are not happy with how the season is going. But most of their players have NTCs...
Penguins need prospects and/or picks but I can't really see anyone on their roster that would help the Sabres.

It's tough though with the Sabres.
I don't look at them top to bottom and think they're a terrible team.
They have alot of young talent. They have some decent veteran role players. They're not as thin as the sharks or blackhawks atleast.
Overall I think they just skew too young and don't have guys properly slotted.
It's probably not a good idea to have your bottom 6 filled with young guys like Krebs, Cozens, Benson and Quinn.
They also seem to have terrible defensive structure.

Well. If you want to get technical, the apostrophe doesn't actually indicate a possessive. "'s" possessives are a contraction of "his"
So "Adam's job" is a contraction of "Adam his job"

Maybe you didn't catch where I said "indicates possession or omitted letters"
Omitted letters means contractions.
So you're right, but I didn't exclude that aspect of it.

That is not a complete sentence - it would have been better to go with ... than a period.

Hear, hear!
The problem is that people think forum posts are a form of conversation. They're actually a form of rhetoric. The big functional difference is error correction.
Rhetoric isn't just about moving people's emotions. It's also about making sure they understand your message the first time, because you're not face to face with them and can't hear them go ‘Huh?’ if they don't get it.
Most of the rules of written English (annoying as they are to people who just want to shoot the breeze) are designed to keep the message from getting misinterpreted by accident.

That's a myth. The possessive S goes back to Old English, and for centuries it was spelled without an apostrophe.

Which obviously means that we don't need to use apostrophes, punctuation or proper spelling because it's all going to change over the next 1,000 years anyway.

I think a Cozens trade could feasibly happen with the involvement of a third team.
Something like.. Valued roster player to Buffalo from 3rd party, a second roster player from Calgary to Buffalo and valued future pieces to the 3rd party. Cozens to the Flames. Add swaps of minor pieces and picks to make it work.
Hopefully Conroy is active on the phones and seeing what available avenues there could be.

I would do something like;
Kadri to Colorado ($3mil retained by Calgary)
Mittelstadt and Cozens to Calgary
Buffalo gets Vegas 1st (from Calgary) 1st from Colorado and a 2nd or 3rd from Calgary.
We can afford to eat Kadri salary. If other players develop in a couple years, Mittelstadt can be moved for more futures.

Highly doubt Calgary would retain four more years of Kadri at $3m per and Buffalo would want a roster player with upside not just picks, instead of the Vegas first it would likely have to be a young lefty center like Zary or Frost
