Yeah. Without those lost games, he’d likely be chasing 1,000 goals if not passed 1,000 goals by now.

I wonder what percentage of his goals are from one timers on the left side?
Everyone knows it’s coming but he still blows it by them.

Agreed. Ovi is proud to be Russian, which (despite Putin) is understandable given it is his home country to which he maintains deep roots.
Gretz, although placed on a pedestal in Canada, wants nothing to do with the place.
It is clear that for him, Canada is nothing but a glorified ATM.
He doesn't live here, he visits only for financial purposes to collect sponsorship money and Katz $$$.
He has no pride in being Canadian; never bothered to collect his Order of Canada which was awarded in 2009.
He supports a dictator who threatens his home country.
Gretz is an alcoholic turncoat who should be shamed publicly.

Lots of quotes from goalies saying not only is it absolutely flying, but its movement is unlike anyone else’s shot.
Old info but helpful:
Quote:
NHL.com charted each of Ovechkin's 644 career goals, including a League-leading 37 this season. The numbers aren't surprising.
• 277 goals scored from the left circle or above (43%)
• 131 goals scored on a one-timer from the left circle or above (20.3 %)
• 92 of 239 power-play goals scored on a one-timer from left circle or above (38.5%)

At this point, I hope he beats the record in fewer games than Wayne.
Anyone notice Wayne came out of the US bench as the honorary Canadian captain? Friggen shoulda been Mario.

They'd have gotten him confused with Guy Gaudreau.

I think we need to look at the way they laid the black rolls on the ice. They were both to come out of the USA bench and along the edge of the ice until it turned for centre ice. I don't think there was any option for the way they entered is all I am saying.

Should've been Iggy. Key player in both the '02 and '10 gold medal teams, played for the Bruins, owns a home in Boston. Would've been a far better choice that that traitor and would've gotten a good pop from the Boston crowd.

Gretzky was 37 in his final season (turned 38 in January). Ovechkin is 39 this year.
Ovechkin has 29 goals this season (with 25 games to go) and has only failed to score 25 goals in a season once in his career -- the 2020-21 COVID shortened season, when he scored 24 in 45 games.
The last time Gretzky scored more than 25 in a season was 1993-94, when he was 32/33.

Really puts it into perspective how impressive it is what Ovechkin is doing. The list could also be different in terms of order and final numbers for guys like Crosby, Selanne, Iginla, Jagr and Ovechkin if those players didn’t lose so many games to multiple lockouts and (in the case of Iginla, Crosby and Ovechkin) COVID-shortened seasons.

Remember that stupid ####ing list where Iginla wasn’t ranked as even a top 100 NHL player in history?
Yet here is ranked above Crosby, Esposito and Shanahan…
Yeah Salming, Nieuwendyk and Duncan Keith were better than Iginla for sure… still can’t believe that nonsense. Insane snub. Same with Thornton.

Don't even get me started. Absolute disrespect for a player that defined the early 00s.
As a consolation prize, The Athletic had Jarome as #34 on their all-time list. But still. I'm still mad at the NHL for that.

Still seems a bit low, but that could be the homerism in me. IMO he's a top 20 all time forward, without question. Could probably pick 10 d men and 5 goalies that are as good as him so 34 is close.

Iginla is the Era adjusted 7th best goal scorer of all time, but not good enough for NHL's top 100 players of all time.
Okey dokey.
