I don’t think you can demote Coleman after the season he just had. Flames would be better off trying to develop a 4th line that can provide pace and offensive ability with something like:
Lomberg - Klapka - Coronato with Rooney in the AHL and Pelletier as 13th forward.
If Coronato keeps playing like this, I imagine he knocks Mantha out of the top-9 before he knocks Coleman down.
Not only that is, why would Coleman be demoted at all? Plays both ends of the ice and scores 30. He deserves a ####ing raise.

Yeah that was a fun game and obviously some stand outs like Coronato and Grush, but also loved Klapka and and hoping this is a good progression of Honzek too.
Pelletier seemed a bit invisible though didn't he?

Just a pre-season game but have to wonder what’s going on with Shane Wright. Invisible for a former 4th overall who should be knocking on the door to make the Kraken. Could have just been an off game for their whole team but Catton was one of their best forwards.
None of them looked as solid as pretty much everyone on the flames.
This goal call right here is exactly why I can't stand Wills. The whole "shoots and scores" thing just drives me nuts. He has no pacing, the puck is already in the net before he even says shoots.

I really liked the forecheck and speed throughout the game. SEA definitely didn't expect this much pushback. I really liked what I saw from both Schwindt and Rooney. Rooney was great on the PK.
As far as offense, Coronato, Honzek and Frk stood out. Coronato looks a lot quicker out there, and much stronger on his feet.
Klapka was great too, but I think he got away with a couple of penalties. He has a great knack of making space for himself and finding pucks around the net.
I would've liked to notice Pelletier a bit more, he was decent, but I noticed a guy like Hunt a lot more.
I hope Stromgren is alright, he seemed to be getting cheap shot this game.
The D were solid, so was Wolf. This game leaves me with a lot more questions than answers. I really liked the way Pachal played. Grushnikov, Brzustewicz, and Poirier also caught my eye quite a bit.

Let Zary and Pospisil have a little competition. Both wanted to play center and keeps them hungry .
Young guys looked great tonight.
Liked the entire d-core. Poirier and Brzustewicz looked great as a pair. Grush was good with Parekh who played a steady game. Bean and Pachal led the core as the vets.
Coronato and Honzek the most noticeable forwards for me. But Klapka and Stromgren looked good too. Pelletier was quiet offensively but played well in a more defensive role.
I like those lines, and I think you and I have usually had Pelletier in our draft lines. I agree Coleman shouldn’t play on the 4th line, but I guess I have an equally hard time seeing Pospisil or Zary on the 4th line. The problem is that if Coronato forces the Flames to put him in, he’s going to play on the 4th line, or someone you hate to see on the 4th line will. I do like the idea of Pelletier playing with that “demoted” forward though. In most of my renditions of the Flames’ lines, I’ve had Pelletier - Pospisil - Lomberg as my 4th line. I think my ideal lines would be:
Focused primarily on the rookies / young guys of interest to me.
Good showings:
Wolf: Looked great. Well positioned throughout the game. Gives you the feeling that he's in control, never scrambling. He's definitely put a marker down in the goalie competition.
Bru: Almost looked ready for me. Was smart in his defensive positioning along the boards, noticeably different than at Young Stars for me. Good with his stick in defensive zone, patient with puck, and makes a good pass. Best of the prospects for me.
Grush: Thought he had a rough first, but turned it around in the second. Much better on the puck, good positionally, and physical. Got a really good reception from the bench when he got out of the box after serving his fighting penalty when he stuck up for the dangerous trip/knee on Stromgren.
Coronato: First period was meh. But really came alive in the second. I do think his skating is noticeably improved and reminded me of his good stint near the end of last season. On multiple occasions was able to use his edgework to elude defenders in the offensive zone and clear time for himself to make a play. Shot when he had the opportunity, but was unselfish and made smart (and excellent) passes for goals.
Gridin: He did not look out of place. Held his own physically, thought he was positioned well most of the night, not afraid of contact and has an active stick. I think his talent is that he sees the ice well, sneaks into those empty areas and makes quick smart passes. Also has a *very* quick release on his shot.
Not good, not bad:
Pelletier: Active, responsible, grinded away.
Honzek: Looked much better than in the Young Stars. Seemed much more comfortable in this structure environment, able to create some space for himself on the rush, and was defensively responsible.
Morton: Worked hard. He looked like Pelletier, but with a bit more edge and presence. Not afraid of contact, and willing to go into battles for pucks.
Poirier: Worked hard, didn't stick out to me as a liability on the defensive end. Seems poised with the puck and definitely has an eye for offense.
Was hoping for more:
Stromgren: Unlucky recipient of some cheap hits. But even before then, wasn't able to fully make his presence felt. He seems a smart player, makes responsible plays, and doesn't looked rushed with the puck. But he didn't try to impose himself the way we saw at Young Stars.
Klapka: Yeah he scored. And with his reach he can create problems for the other team. But his skating isn't great and leads him to being quickly caught out. He needs the game in front of him because his skating and agility leave him behind when play transitions.
Not ready:
Parekh: He floats and just doesn't have urgency, especially in the defensive zone. You can see he's a great skater, and definitely gets his shot through. But he's not keen on contact. He and Bru looked light years apart on the defensive side of the game. Not sure where he goes to sort that out, but he's not NHL ready.
Have to give the team credit for an enjoyable showing. They were on their heels there for the early stretch of the first period. But they do seem to have been generally well drilled and played a really nice structured game from the latter part of the first period until the end. Decent breakouts, clear plays to stretch the defense, and generally looked cohesive.

I think Rooney and Hunt are going to be ahead of Pelletier. They looked good tonight.
It’s awesome how quickly this team has accrued so many exciting prospects. In most years, there’s 2 or maybe 3 guys that you’re excited about their future with the team. Now there are at least a dozen I can think of right now.
Coronato, Honzek, Klapka, Gridin, Misa, Basha, Lipinski, Parekh, Grushnikov, Solovyov, Brzustewicz and Poirier… I’m certain I’m forgetting someone.
Of course, lots of those guys won’t work out. But they are all players with skillsets that make them intriguing prospects that could become impact players in the NHL.
The kids are alright! Really didn't expect them to put up 6, or even win the game, but I think they showed a lot. A good amount of skill and a good amount of grit and effort. Hope Honzek isn't hurt. Grushnikov was impressive - actually, all the D were pretty good this game.
Wolf was good. Klapka is going to be an NHL'er. Coronato looked good. Gridin is going to light up the Q - I thought that the way he was playing thus far, that the organization was just going to send him to the AHL right away.
That's why I think the rebuild can't last too long. I think the Flames have too much talent in the organization right now. They are missing a couple of "franchise forwards" that hopefully they pick up in the next two drafts, but these kids are going to push in this league and simply won't allow the Flames to be terrible. There's just too much quality I think, and the Flames would have to really try to tank in order to stay bad for 5 years. These kids will all experience their growing pains too, but this is a deep and talented prospect pool already, only missing a couple of franchise players (specifically at least 1 centre).
We’ve had one of the better AHL teams for the last few years for a reason

Even if Brz looks ready, I don’t hate the idea of starting him with the wranglers. Let him run the powerplay down there and dominate. There are always going to be injuries throughout the year, and he can earn a call up
I really like seeing Grushnikov and Parekh together
In the prospects vote threads, I started voting for Grush in round 5
I have really liked some pairings where you have a reliable guy paired with a guy that activates. Hanifin was able to flourish playing with Tanev. I remember when Sarich and Gio were second pairing and went something like 16 games in a row with neither being a minus
I just think Grush has the right attributes to potentially fill a very important role in the long term.
I liked Pelletier tonight, but it’s becoming very clear that his upside is a middle six winger, at best. I think he needs to realize that he’s not a top 6, skilled winger and more of a third liner that can bring energy and kill penalties
