otoh if that is all it takes for a team to get out of an otherwise guaranteed contract, most NHLers are now on warning
I'm sure even if that is the general coles notes of what happened, it was probably a bit more than a "how you doin'.."
There was a lot of talk during the Bill Peter’s saga that contracts will likely have moral and ethical clauses going forward. I’m sure by now there has been lots of work done on incorporating things like this into contracts signed today.
There is no way the NHLPA allows a player's contract to be terminated because "he hit on someone." It would have to be much more egregious than that, especially if Perry himself didn't even fight the loss something like $1.75M in salary.
This isn't about Perry at all. This is about the NHL not taking these things seriously.
If there was an issue where Perry needed help, such as addiction, he didn't get help in 8 weeks. To me even saying that he did is making mockery of the addiction treatment process and how hard it is for people. If there are other issues, such as abuse or whatever else, again the NHL is making a mockery of it all. And in this case the Oilers are part of the problem.
Either there is an issue, or there isn't and given how the Blackhawks reacted, there sure seems to have been an issue.

And let's be honest, the Oiler's aren't doing this to give Perry a second chance, they are doing it to try and win a cup. And they are willing to compromise on core values to do so.
Objection: assumes facts not in evidence.
Do the Oilers, in fact, have any core values?

Have I ever mentioned him at all before this? Youve obviously gone through my posts....
That is exactly the point... suddenly you are his biggest defender
Why? Because your no moral team signed that loser when nobody else would. Call a spade a spade. If he signed in Columbus you wouldn't be here defending him.
This whole situation makes no sense.
If what he did was bad enough to terminate a contract, he shouldn't be back in the NHL so quickly.
If it wasn't that bad, his contract shouldn't have been terminable.
NHL allowed things to pass to get their darling team a favourable signing.
I hope the timing of this with the hockey Canada news blows things up in their faces. You already know people in the NHL and Oilers administration are preying things don't get questioned further given the climate of today.

I am currently listening to Pierre Lebrun say there was double digit teams after him.
I am defending the Oilers not Perry.
Edit: I dont pay attention to Columbus at all. I wouldnt care to even look into it if he signed there.
