#%^* this.

Take the 3rd and the 5th and focus on the tank. Lindy, Tanev, and Hanifin out the gawt dang door for futures is the path forward. Anything else is stupid.
In theory Conroy could use that space to take back bad money in another trade, and extract more value. But I have my doubts. Murray Edwards has never, ever in the history of this franchise operated that way. I'm not even convinced he's going to allow for salary retention. It would take a real unprecedented shift in MO.

I understand the trade, I'm still disappointed by it.

I agree. Way too early to determine whether the trade is bad or good. Seriously, how can you until you see how the younger player and the draft-picked player they got in the trade turn out?

The return isn’t just bad it’s flat out embarrassing.

And the Toffoli trade was as well. At the time and now.

Yikes. He really could #### this thing up big time couldnt he?

The Flames 100% coul have gotten more if they waited to the deadline, but I figure Conroy knows they can't gut the Flames that week. Trading early cost a little, but it gives time for the team to acclimate. Given the success at late, there is a chance the Flames will be in the race for a playoff spot and might only want to sell 1 player, let alone 4.

I'm interested to see what he does with the cap space because it sounds like that cap space was worth a lesser return for his plan.
I think Conroy made some savy pickups so far. Greer was a great add, Sharangovich is also coming along nicely.

I though Hunt has a good showing down in the AHL and is okay as a 13th forward. The only miss is Oesterle so far.

It still beats signing guys like Rooney to 1.3 x 2.

Ya let’s wait and see how good this 15 YEAR OLD is in 10 years to really get a good look at this trade

The Flames have to use this cap space to facilitate trades/take on bad contracts for value.

I don't want to see them errantly use this space to try and compete as they are want to do.

Maybe Stone can un retire and be on our 3rd pairing?

Watch Zadorov now . Maybe he'll become a nightmare for the nucks and we can sit back and laugh.

Getting an unhappy player out of the room had to be a priority and that's now done. Conroy HAS to have a plan here . He wasn't going to win any trade or have everyone agree with him anyway....seriously no one is ever happy with any move regardless

Seems like mismanagement of player personalities and team direction forced conroy into selling him earlier than ideal to drive a better return.

I'd love to. It could be Brayden Point, who was a 3rd rounder 10 years ago.

Return is meh, not that far off probably his value as a rental, but also I don't think in the next 4 months as the trade deadline gets closer, that return wouldn't have gotten worse.

So for me, the timing is the issue, with the assumption is the Flames have some other irons in the fire to utilize this cap space, so will wait and see if there are other dominos to fall in the upcoming days to maximize the use of it and trade an asset as early as they have.

Flames have gotten that much less tougher though, he and Gudbranson were a solid 5 6 pair and he's been a proud Flame and gave a #### more then many others in his time here and a good interview.

Pro Sutter guy and three other pro Sutter guys left in the offseason, so that didn't help.. His agent didn't do him any favors by opening his big mouth, regardless of what was going on with negotiations last month.

If the Flames aren't going to improve on the ice with these trades they need to aim higher than 3rd round picks.
As the younger and less developed player, is he supposed to be?

Depends on what metrics you're using as "good".

Sure Tyler puts up points fairly reliably, but is that the be all end all? Does a guy like Tyler put a team over the top or move the needle much when it comes down to it?

If the Devils robbed us of a gem shouldn't they be even better this year? Looks like the team has taken a step back, if anything.

I'm very bullish on Suniev also, and he would likely be a late 1st pick in most other years.

I think this a severely premature evaluation.

Toffoli will regress in the coming years, whereas the guys we got are on the way up. That seems in line with where the Flames are headed organizationally.

Pretty poor value for a division rival gotta say. Cap will be nice though.

Which we will use to sign Perry. I hear he's pretty high on CGY now, after seeing Vladar's mom on tv.

Seriously though it gives the Flames options. They could sign an ex Oiler like Bear or Puljujarvi for example, see if they can add anything to the team.

Yeah, I guess so if you want to figure out how well a trade actually turns out vs. how it hypothetically could have turned out. The hypothetical makes for good discussion until the actual is determined but the real return isn't known until then. And we'll still debate it at that time.

It seems human nature that we have a strong desire to declare the winners and losers well before all the returns are in.

Seems like a light return. I liked Zads.
