Blaming the officiating for this series is laughable. The Flames let McDavid and Drai walk all over them, and Markstrom was a ####ing disgrace. I’d say blow it up, but why bother. This organization is a bunch of choking dogs.
I just hope Colorado ruins their #### in 5 very short games.

True, but on average he was the most consistent in being bad these playoffs. I noticed it from the stars series.

I'm pretty much done with Markstrom. If you can't beat the Oilers, you can't be a #1 goalie for the Calgary Flames!!! Just a terrible series from him!!!

Flames were doomed when the biggest chant of the night was “oilers suck”.

Add in some suspect goaltending from Markstrom, and some elite performances from their top 4 forwards and that's a series.
This honestly shocked the hell out of me. I just didn't see this series unfolding like this. I thought it would be more of a battle, but the Flames just continued to fold when things got tough. That bothers me more than anything.
Some soul searching to do for many of the players on this team in the off season.

Gasp! How dare you suggest Sutter got outcoached in the series. (sarc)

I usually eyeroll at "trade x for a bag of pucks" posts byt I would seriously doubt the Flames are any worse replacing Hanifin with a kid like Jeremie Poirier freah out of the Q

Prior to the deadline, I suggested trading Hanifin+Monahan+Lucic to Seattle for Gio+Jarnkrok+Fleury. I was widely laughed at.
As for tonight's result, not much to say beyond what's been already said in this thread. BS call from the league, but it shouldn't have come down to that. Flames didn't play nearly well enough to be competitive in this series, let alone win it.

That's truly unbelievable that the same ref made both calls.
How can you expect consistency from different refs when you can't even get consistency from the same one?

I'm sure if the league wants the Oilers in the final they will help them. I don't care for the Avs Oilers series I'm done for the year. Sad to see the season end against Edmonton like that so embarrassing

6 goals came in game 1 despite the Flames having a stranglehold on them. There were quite a few defensive lapses and he struggled to make some saves at key points. He just wasn't the same after game 1, despite winning it.

To CP: thanks for a season of lively debate and well thought out but divergent opinion.
To the Flames: thanks for winning a round?
To the NHL: thanks for nothing!

This was a weird series. Stuff happened early that shook his confidence and he started playing differently. Tighter. You could see it in his reactions to saves. Everything was high stakes and he just couldn't get past it.
But this is not the norm for him. He's usually the coolest and calmest player out there. Something about facing McDavid and Draisaitl shakes him. It's a one team phenomenon. I'm fine with how he plays against the other 30 teams.
|
Maybe Kane walks and they can’t find a goalie so its back to Smith and some nobody, or maybe their again in our way forward.
We need someone who can be Kipper level calm against them. Otherwise its groundhog day all over

Just an incredible player. A good two to three steps better than anyone else. With how diluted and assimilated player talent is these days in terms of training, conditioning and skill building it is absolutely insane to watch a player take the puck and skate through everyone and at that speed, so consistently.
We used to laugh about the term generational on here when he started in the league, but that is undoubtedly a generational talent.

I think the league should take a lot of heat for that Coleman goal being called back. But I don't think anyone should find solace in it. I think that play exemplified that Backlund and Coleman were dialed in this series, but they couldn't do it alone. The rest of the team never met their intensity level.

Well yeah. He didn’t play well from the start and never really recovered.
You expect to win the goalie matchup when you play the Oilers.

Still shouldn't have been in the position to lose the series in game 5 on a jobbed call but man thay was a dagger.

Why did we constantly pass the puck to the Oilers in our own zone. Just couldn’t get it out like we had all year.
Johnny”s defensive play in our end cost us. The guy will never ever sacrifice his body to get the puck out no matter how important the game is. Always leaves the dirty work for everyone else.
