Why didn't tree just promote from within for the backup. Made no sense seeking out someone else's reclamation project that cost way more and was basically as risky as using our kids.

Jankowski turnover -Odd man goal. Versteeg turnover - shortie
CGY just needs to cut out these turnovers and chip away. They were playing quite well. It will be a test of them sticking to it or just trying to be individual and getting in a deeper hole.
Gets some shots, get some PPs (take Versteeg off point or start PP2 first on every subsequent chance) and support the goalie.
Hopefully it will be a great comeback win

Not sure why anyone would be surprised. Even when this team was winning games they were giving up way too many scoring chances. This defense group is either the most overrated group of defensemen in the NHL or the coaching staff is failing big time at enforcing defensive structure. Probably a bit of both.

I think k Lack comes out for the 2nd and 3rd but by no fault of his own. I'm not sure any of those goals could be considered his fault

This. It's not too much to ask from a goalie.

Yeah, I’d be more than fine with Gillies as the full time backup. At least when he lets in a softie we can chalk it up to a young prospect still adjusting to the NHL. Not a vet with 138 GP just playing like garbage.

As soft and dumb of a period I’ve seen from an NHL defenceman, nice work Brodie.

Bad bounces early on led to a lack of confidence. Really bad penalty kill on the 2nd kill after an exceptional job on the first kill. Consistency in special teams needs to be there. Then there's the very unfortunate play from Versteeg on the power play, along with a Brodie fly by that leads to a back breaking goal.
And yet, I see very little that was directly on Lack (although he was down early on the Larkin goal). That's not how you play for your backup. Give the guy a chance to do his job at least.
Basically, everything that can go wrong has gone wrong, and this next period can make or break a team mentally. Go out, play the game the way you need to, try to get 1 or 2 goals back to make a game of it in the 3rd. Don't throw in the towel just because it hasn't gone your way yet.

Ease up on Lack, folks.

Agreed I don't think Lack is the issue here right now, Brodie needs to stay on his skates or at least go to the knees using his stick he's easily read by players, unfortunate blown tire by Versteeg but Brodie surprised him with the pass that shoulda been a shot. Less turnovers and better passes, more challenging the puck carriers.

The pass from Brodie to Versteeg, as Versteeg was falling down, was utter crap too

Wouldn't be opposed to seeing what the market Brodie is right now. With young guys knocking on the door something needs to budge and we might as well trade him while his value is high.
He is too prone to mistakes and boneheaded plays.

Not all of the goals were his fault but he needs to be better than that. I really hope Smith is back next game because I have zero confidence in Lack.

Here is the thing, if GG thinks BT is going to stick with Lack and Smith could be out for a while he should come back with Lack and hope he is solid through the next two. If GG thinks the team could come back and win he should start Gillies in the 2nd and staple Brodie's ass the to the bench.
