I really hope Treliving is done, only thing left to do is move out Wideman and Chiasson if there is someone willing to take them. Keep Ferland on the first line, move Hathaway back into the 4th line and lets see what they can do. I dont know why it took so long to get Ferland on the 1st line, I thought Johnny and Monahans best games last year were with Ferland, not Hudler. They seem to have more space when he is out there.

Ferland really stepped up. Looked like a force out there. If he shows some consistency then that's one problem solved...
Wideman for anything at all would be a welcome addition by subtraction. I could cope with that being it.

I don't see Bennett being a solid centre. I imagine he'll play most his career on the wing; as much as people want him to be a centre because he was drafted as a centre.
If the offer was right and B.T had something very beneficial coming back to CGY, I'd pull the trigger on a Bennett deal.

Bennett is 20 years old people. No he has not been good this year....hardly anything to worry about. He is learning the NHL game at the hardest position to master.
People wanted a rebuild here.....well this is what it looks like. It takes TIME and PATIENCE. Something many apparently don't have any stomach for. You can't have it both ways. The fact this club is flirting with the playoffs for the 2nd time in 3 years is a minor miracle.
Any thoughts of dealing kids who haven't finished their 2nd pro season is somewhat absurd.

I think people are setting themselves up for disappointment if they think Bennett is on the move for a player like simmonds. If we are looking for a winger with an edge, it is in all likelihood to replace players like Bouma and Chiasson who are supposed to bring that element but obviously management is dissatisfied with what they are doing, hence the quest for this type of player.
If we are spitballing names, Evander Kane brings this element that they are looking for but has tons of baggage which may disqualify him from being a target. Couple that with the acquisition cost (Buffalo is looking for D which we just solidified) and I would say he isnt a realistic target.
As for others and in glancing at rosters of teams that are unlikely to make the playoffs, there are players that could probably bring an edge to the bottom six.
Foligno from Buffalo
JT Brown from TB
Thorburn from Winnipeg
Acquisition cost for these players should be reasonable (prospect/pick). Maybe a prospect like shinkaruk who appears to be buried on the depth chart would get it done for a player like Foligno or Brown, thorburn could probably be had for much less but not sure if he would be an upgrade on Hathaway.

If the talk was moving him for the sake of moving him, sure. But the question was about getting one of if not the best forward in the game.

Friedman said Burrows would be a great fit here but didn't know if Vancouver would trade him here or if he would want to come here

I find it very hard to believe any player in that locker room would agree with Elliott that Burrows would be a good fit.

WAAAAAYYYYYYYY worse than Morrison. Morrison is not a whining, diving, hair-pulling, finger-biter.
Morrison played for the Canucks, Burrows is the epitome of the Canuck that we hate.

Not that I disagree with the idea of holding on to Bennett (No strong feelings about it either way), but a 28 year old still fits in our window quite well. A 28 year old playing at his peak fits better than a 21 year old that could take another 4 or 5 years to really start to make an impact.
Backlund will be 28 this year for example. Who do you think is more likely to make an impact on this cores chances at a cup? Backlund or Bennett?

Craig Button on a TSN hit was still kicking around the idea of Bennett for Duschene ( plus likely a prospect and/or picks ).

I am not discounting Backlund but Bennett is built for the playoffs. Think of the Vancouver series. He warmed all of our little hearts then much like the Tkachuk does now.

In playoffs? Bennett's style might win out in a lengthy run. Backlund has come a long was from his 1st years being shy along the boards and avoiding contact. However, a 1 month playoff push + 2 month cup run is tough. Backlund hasn't proven anything good or bad come playoffs. Neither has Bennett really...
