There are pros and cons to either option, for both the team and player.

Thanks. I didn't think it would be that many seasons still.
So, he'd be 27 at that point, but 28 before the next season would start.
So my bet is like you said, 4 years or 6+

Might that be the sticking point though, assuming that this far along there is one. Gaudreau's camp may be digging their heels in for 5 years. Long enough that he still needs to get paid for his projected potential, but also means he gets his first big UFA pay day sooner as well as choice of location.
I understand there are draw backs for Gaudreau on a 5 year, such as the Flames not needing to buy any UFA years, but I don't wonder if Gaudreau's camp isn't pushing hard for term the Flames really don't want, as I could see the appeal to Gaudreau.

I think it's just Treliving playing his game of delay, delay until he gets the terms he wants.

Watch next year he'll do really well on the road and crappy at the dome. Then people will start saying he hates Calgary thus he doesn't score at home.

So, what is the holdup with Monahan?
Both players are in negotiations, and yet all the angst in this thread is directed at Gaudreau.
I maintain that both players will sign long term deals, and that any perceived delay is likely occurring on the Flames' side of this process.

Both of these players have not been shy to imply that they want to be in Calgary long-term. Of course, I'm sure they weren't offering up massive home-town discounts as well.
I would bet that this gets done long-term, and they're negotiating over nickels at this point. Neither side seems anxious to get this done. They all know it WILL, just the final details are what they're hammering out. Normally one side or another leaks some info about negotiations not going well by this point. Considering there's two camps, I'd say it's done.

Negotiations rely on leverage. During the summer, there is no time pressure causing leverage, thus negotiations are slower.

Does anyone know what Johnny is studying and what university/college he is going to and how much time he has spent studying/how much more time he will spend studying, I just wish Johnny focused on working out and getting ready for the season, instead of going to university/college, if he is spending all his time going to university/college, when will he workout and prepare for the season?

Lol this is some Montreal level worrying about Subban spending too much time focusing on the community and not on hockey.
What's the guy supposed to do? Workout 15 hours a day?

Wow, now this is one hell of a post. Is that one question, or 7? I can't tell, there are no periods.
Have you ever worked out? You don't work out 12 hours a day. It should be fine. If anything, a mental break from a gruelling season is a great thing.

If was a hockey player I would focus 100% of time on hockey but this is Montreal level of thinking no doubtLOL

Sorry about the post and yes I do workout and you are right, you don't workout 12 hours a day, I think this is just me worrying that he has not signed yet.

He made a commitment to his mum when he signed with the flames that he would go back and finish his degree in the offseason(s). Another sign of what a solid guy JG is that he holds true to his word even with a $50m contract pending.

I've been in the Boston college gym and it's definitely one of the nicest.
Absolutely massive and well set up. Has everything anyone could need.
Working out is the easy as pie part.
Eating to maximize the benefits of working out is the hard part lol.
He's got skittle strength so I'm not worried.

Gaudreau has said he wants to play with Monahan for the next 10 years. I'm waiting for someone to say that he really hopes they'll BOTH be traded to New Jersey.
