So, we're talking about getting prepared for Milan Lucic like it's gonna be some sort of new Semenko vs. Hunter situation? What year is this again? The most likely scenario in this day and age would be zero fights between Lucic and the flames this season, so let's not make a whole lot of preparation for the potential 30 seconds of knuckles.
Johnny takes way too many slashes and the refs don't do anything about it, I wish we had someone who would react that way.
Yep, no problem with that at all. I agree that the pure fighters time has come and gone, but if you can slash guys in the bare spot and break wrists without fear of retaliation, then we will see Johnny get hacked more and more. Personally, Id like to see less fights after big clean hits, and more fights after dirty stick work.

Draisaitl fixed his skating. Kid isn't slow anymore, not at all.
Draisaitl has always been great in a straight line. He's surprisingly fast and when he gets going he's a load to handle. His problem is he has poor edges and is not overly agile. He isn't going to wow you with his shiftiness or dance around you. He's going to try and use his speed wide and a power move to the net. Defensemen will quickly learn to play him and will know what to expect. He's kind of a one trick pony in that regard.

now that's done. some ppl are acting like the Oilers avoided Sidney Crosby.
Lucic was already in our division last year and how crazy was he ? His impact is being WAY overblown.
A whopping 20 goals and 3 fights. Honestly I forgot he was even in the division most of last season. I'm sure he may get amped up for a battle of Alberta game but IMO that's a good thing as the Flames have had such an easy time with the Oilers over the years you don't want them to get overly comfortable so I'm fine with the Oilers having a player on their roster that will keep the Flames on their toes. He takes a lot of stupid penalties so that's something that will work in the Flames favor.
The Oilers may have got marginally better with the additions of Larsson, Lucic, and Puljujarvi (factoring in the loss of Hall). They certainly have got a lot bigger over the past year. Lucic, Larsson, Maroon, Nurse, Puljujarvi are all big boys.
The hall trade was a brutal return. One of the league's top scoring wingers, essentially a younger, bigger Phil Kessel type player, that we just learned can be extremely valuable when put in the appropriate role. Well the role was just about to precipitate in edmonton, where he was no longer "the guy" and could be a secondary top player for the team. But you gotta give to get, so they used him as an asset, which is understandable.
The return was for a dman, that most folks likely had to google since he sorta disappeared after being drafted so high. Sounds like he's a good middle pair, big guy with the potential to be a top pair guy, with no offense, but a good first pass. Sounds like Bouwmeester but without the topend speed that is bouwmeesters only really "great" asset.
I think the lucic signing is a good one. I think the deal term and $ is high, but the oilers are going into their new building after yet another year of being a league wide punch-line. i think they need the next few years to finally be good ones to turn the franchise PR disaster around, even if it means they'll have to figure the cap issues out down the road.
In the end, the roster is better now. Gone is hall, but in is lucic+larsson, and that's definitely improved.
I think they'll finally be out of the basement and be a middling team in the west . Though it would be hilarious if lucic struggles, the defense is still incomplete, and the broken record oiler failures of the last decade continue.
